Self-inflicted mortal wound. Totally unnecessary. All they had to say was, "This is a Christian faith-based organization for developing young male leaders. The Girl Scouts organization is for young women. Period."

Most all of the Apollo and Gemini astronauts were Eagle Scouts. There was no reason to change, except maybe don't put grown men into Boy Scout clothing, especially if the boy is still in them.
