This is pertenant info that should have been included in the OP. If you make a 6 hour drive pretty much once a month then she has no room to complain about you sitting a couple out when they pile up.

Now I would probably try to negotiate but that's sometimes tricky with a woman. I'd agree to go to both trips in 3 weeks if we then take a hiatus and avoid the drive for a few months in a row. Maybe try to negotiate some road head too?
