We bought tickets to Acropolis in advance. Definitely recommend this. There is a ticket for multiple sites you can get online in advance. The only bad thing for this ticket is it doesn’t get you into Acropolis museum which is awesome. It gets you access to other sights but for 2 days it is tough to see everything. First day is fighting off sleep from inbound flight.

Parthenon is must. Either go super early- we were second in line- or go late in the evening.
Middle of the day is crazy packed and hot. Acropolis museum is also very nice.
Plenty of other ruins all over town, after a while they all look the same. I would go see the Temple of Hephaestus as it is the best preserved.
Stroll the neighborhoods- Plaka is the most popular. Each evening we would walk through the neighborhoods filled with people eating outside. We enjoyed the Old Tavern of Psarras and Kosmikon for dinner.
Monastiraki square is a busy area in the heart of town. We had lunch on an upstairs balcony overlooking the street one day.
