Earlier this week I made a morning stop by Walmart because they have my Equate 4mg lozenges for half the price of the grocery stores and I needed my nicotine fix. I went ahead and grabbed some beer too, you know, for later in the afternoon. Trashy confirmed. Weekday mornings are nice and slow at Walmart so I didn't have to deal with crowds and things that make me hate. As I approach the front of the store, an employee says "Hey Bass Pro Shops!" I was wearing a BPS trucker hat, so I stopped and turned around, and it's just a Walmart employee smiling at me while leaning on one of those aisle pallets. I gave him a thumbs up and a smile, thinking that's weird, but it's Walmart so whatever. I get to self checkout, everything goes fast and smooth. As I'm traversing the front of the store where they have the ancillary services, the bank has a lady walk out and call me by name. So I stop and try to figure out if it is a lady in my neighborhood or how I know this lady that she knows my name, I say hi, and kind of stand there for a couple seconds trying to put it together. She just looks at me. I say "did you call me by my name?" No I wasn't wearing a name tag, thinking I did not recognize her and she says "No I was just saying hello". So I say "hello" and continue making my way to the exit, starting to get a Truman Show feeling. As I approach the greeter with my receipt in hand, he walks by me to another employee who called him over, and I overheard "yeah I was trying to talk to a customer and they didn't want to talk to me" and they weren't referring to me, but another customer. So I calmed myself down by assuming there's some new Walmart mantra to give the chick fil a treatment to customers and it wasn't working out well. Is that the case? Do I have early onset dementia? Was it all just random?
