I agree to a point. Majority of people don’t take care of their vehicles, but some do. I grew up running around a GM dealer. I watched the service manager and dealer owner go above and beyond for the ones GM was trying to screw over. Unfortunately that little mom and pop dealer got closed during the bankruptcy, so now we’ve gotta settle for a bigger dealership, and all they wanna do is give you the run around. I’ve had way too many arguments with the service manager who doesn’t know a damn thing. Her dad owns the place. She just works there. Anyways…

Another thing is I knew an older man who had a 6.0 Ford bone stock. It started having problems. Ford tried to deny his warranty because they couldn’t prove what oil he used. I called that bluff also. I had every record of every oil change he did and the oil was Motorcraft 10W30. If you look up the Ford recommendations, it’s anywhere from 5w30 to 15w40. In fact, Ford had a class action lawsuit against them because they had so many claims with the 6.0 and denied warranty for “not using the right oil”. You can’t tell people you’ve gotta use Motorcraft oil. It’s just gotta meet the manufacturer specs. Brand don’t mean shite. Give me a break…

And I’ve got a news flash for ya’ll. That “cheap” oil, like Supertech from Walmart, is just as good as Mobil 1 for a lot less. The key is, just keep it change like it’s suppose to be. This ain’t 1970 anymore. Oils are lot better now.

I had 4 years of free oil changes on my truck. The only place that touched my truck was the dealership I bought it from.

Well, after the last dealership oil change, I figured I'd do one myself, because I wanted to replace a plastic filter housing that was stock, with the aluminum OEM housing upgrade.

So, I crawl under my truck and it's missing skid plate bolts! So the dealership sucks as bad as any freaking jiffy lube in my eyes.

I've paid $85-100 here as long as I can remember, and thats the cheap place.

A mining outfit that does oil changes.

I usually pay my guy up front with a cold beer. That gets him ready for the work. About 20 minutes later, I tip him with another cold beer and he is pretty damn happy. I find it to be pretty reasonable. If you want to contact him, his name is Boudreaux35.

Yeh, I can buy the oil and filter (not even the bullshite generic crap) for about 50 bucks. So anyone who wants to pay some dumbass 50 bucks for 20 minutes of simple minded labor is, as my dad taught me, a DAMN FOOL!

I agree that "brand" is not a factor and that API rating/Specs are. As long as the oil changes/services were properly documented (Vin# , Date, Mileage, customer info and Part number/description) on the Service Ticket there should be no issue, especially if its a known issue.

Also agree and those who take care of their vehicle are the ones the manufacturer will most likely help.

GM has had lifter issues on the 5.3 & 6.2 since 2007 and GM has assisted us with many of our customers due to it being a known issue. The "key" to receiving assistance was the customer having proper documentation of services performed at the proper intervals.

Bottom line is this:
* We (dealerships) need detailed documentation in order to ask for any type of assistance (Goodwill) from the manufacturer.
* Having Oil Changes/Maintenance performed at dealerships is not as expensive (and in some cases, cheaper than the chain stores) as you may have thought. Shop around.

With all my equipment, it seems like I'm doing maintenence every other day, including changing oil.

That said, I'm paying to get my truck oil changed. It's too damn convenient, and anything that saves me time at a reasonable cost, I'm gonna do it.
