What if the government tries him for murder but the people don’t convict him?

Then what?

Again, cop is guilty of something.

12 people have to convict. We’ll see how it plays out

Rewind a bit from there to the first time he asks her what apartment. She pauses and says she doesn’t know

She says I am not sure then immediately goes into her story of hearing an argument and a slap that she did not report about being unsure of exactly where it came from and then gives the 1401 after the deputy asks the second time

Not sure if she just didn't hear him ask and went into her story or what but she clearly states 1401

If the 911 call reveals that 1401 was the correct apartment & all parties involved have the correct info & this guy has been arguing slapping and possibly beating a woman where does that put us?

Do I open the door that wide if I do not know who is on the other side if I am being cautious enough to go to the door with my gun? Probably not

Would I try to verify who is banging on my door before opening it? For sure & I would either holster or put the weapon away once verified it was actually the cops

Now is it illegal to answer your door to police while holding your weapon in your hands? I don't think it is but if it is somewhere maybe someone could post that info

Does this greatly increase the risk of being shot by police that are responding to a DV call? 100% it does

Then he is guilty as I suggested the entire time….

What if you actually chose to move from
Ohio to Alabama? And then chose not to move back?

The sheriff’s office said in a statement last week that a deputy responding to a call of a disturbance in progress at the apartment complex reacted in self-defense after encountering an armed man. The office did not offer details on what kind of disturbance deputies were responding to or who called them.

Cool story.

That has nothing to do with my post.

It’s like a Greek tragedy’. Cop is going into the type of situation that gets a lot of cops shot. Innocent guy answers door and for some reason needs his gun to do so. Maybe it’s a rough neighborhood. Cop gets jumpy and shoots immediately.

Maybe the cop is concerned because the lady is with him. Not sure why she was in the vicinity at that point.

No shite.

You chose to be displaced from Ohio to Alabama.

Which isn’t displaced. It’s a choice.

But hey, let’s argue facts again right man?

Well, there's been no argument. You've just been wrong.

Not arguing right or wrong about this situation, just clarifying this as it’s training. Also not reading the entire thread to see if it’s been mentioned, but anyone with a military background that wasn’t a POG, or anyone that has a police background will tell you that doorway is a fatal funnel. There are quite a few videos on YT of cops getting shot at and/or shot knocking on a door. Knock and move to the side.

Where exactly would you fire shots at if you were on the other side of the door and police were knocking? The cop is showing up to what he believes is a DV incident which is one of the most dangerous for law enforcement. Why would he stand in front of the door?

This is the problem with to many local PDs. They all want to be special forces guys who think they are gonna kick down some doors and gun battle with the bad guy and save the day and go tell all their buddies about how they could be “operators”.

Stop treating citizens like they are potential terrorists in a cave in some sand box across the world and just knock on the damn door like a human being and figure out what the frick is going on.

You go into every conflict with the expectation of violence and you’re just setting up a situation where you are more likely to find it

Why would an officer ever send away the lone witness who could actually ID the correct apartment, in such a dangerous situation

I don’t think bringing a civilian into harms way would be the best of ideas, but that really has nothing to do with what I’m saying. If he knocked on the door and got the frick out of the way, behind a wall that offered a little more buffer and isn’t something a potential harmful actor would think of shooting through, there is nothing wrong with that. It’s routine.

He isn’t a friendly neighbor bringing over a freshly baked cake to welcome the guy into the neighborhood.

This cop has no idea what he is walking into when he is knocking on that door.

Just for the record I’m not justifying what the cop did in regards to shooting. Simply stating there is nothing wrong with knocking and stepping to the side.

That’s fine in theory and if he was responding to a call about a noise complaint then I would assume his approach would have been a little different.

I can’t speak for law enforcement but your threat perception is different based on the situation. Especially one you know is very dangerous. If the officer believes that someone is being harmed inside that apartment, his approach is going to be more aggressive.

We use to have to tell our soldiers and remind them, especially the closer we got to the end of a deployment that complacency kills. It’s true and if you haven’t experienced it you might not understand it truly. (Not saying you have or haven’t experienced it, just stating for those that don’t know)

That doesn’t give him the right to gun this guy down in his doorway. I’m not saying that.

Why not? What law in the state of Florida makes holding a gun in your own home while not committing a crime illegal?

Let me know how this works out for you if you should choose to do so, and report back with your findings if able.

Have they put out any information on the deputy? Specifically in regards to how long he has been in law enforcement or if he is prior military?
