Don’t confuse Austin culture with the rest of the state. I’d venture to say you shouldn’t confuse it with UT culture either, but who knows how badly it has mixed. My vote is that some Texas Tech shite-kicker could kick both their asses in a bar fight.

This is generally true. When I was in high school all the meatheads went to Tech if they weren’t good enough for an athletic scholly somewhere.
