Hell, they are running the country too.

I have given up on the state being fixed.

Of course it can. Anything is possible.

IMO, to do so, you'd have to fix two things:

1. Re-invent Education system
--- Primary and secondary education...make it so good that like other top states, private schools will more or less cease to exist
--- Make universities world class research orgs
--------- Model it after Research Triangle NC

2. Re-invent BTR and NO so they are sought-after places to live. Fix #1 and #2 is much easier.

Other states also have casinos, petrochemical and timber.

The whole sportsman’s paradise thing is completely over blown. The white tail hunting is vastly mismanaged. The quality of trophy bucks just isn’t there like it is in other states. This is from decades and decades of people with the “if it’s brown it’s down” mentality. In a nutshell the same reason Louisiana can’t have anything nice. The citizens ruin it. There’s just too many bad apples to the good apples. The good apples are fleeing in droves because there’s no reason to stay.

It’s honestly not much far off from California when you look at people just leaving due to government incompetence. Louisiana is just mostly red. This should prove that bad politics are bad politics. Side of the aisle doesn’t matter if it’s just that screwed up.

Virtually impossible when all politicians are on the take. LA is just a big prostitute with legs wide open for the highest bidder.

No, too many stupid people here.

Imagine how dumb the average poster is on here. Now imagine that about 60% of the state is probably dumber than that.

Since a huge percentage of our talented Gen X and Millenial voters have left for Houston, Dallas, or Atlanta you basically have two groups that decide our elections; poor people and religious boomers.

He's "far right" about social issues boomers get excited about. Hasn't really done anything conservative about the budget or the economy yet, you know stuff that actually matters.

Need Texas to become too expensive before Louisiana can gain real ground.

Yeah, comments about not standing for the national anthem or not attending it doesn't crack the top 200 on the issues list for me

Our best chance is to eliminate the income tax. It’s WAY more important of an issue right now than people are letting on. Only possible while republicans have super majority.

They'll just jack your property taxes way up to make up the difference. In many ways, I think property taxes are worse. I'd rather just have a big arse sales tax to pay for everything and let everyone enjoy in the fun.

I disagree, I accept higher property taxes in lieu of income taxes because it keeps my money close to me where we need it instead of BR. There are plenty of states who have done this and turned their trajectory the frick around. It’s an easy case study and just the type of sweeping change Louisiana needs. I am astounded it’s not being fast tracked.

Property taxes mean that you never own your home. If you think you do, try not paying them.

Some bureaucrat gets to decide the value of your home, which changes every year, and you have to dispute it if you disagree. It's hard to raise income taxes or sales taxes. If you want to raise more money from property taxes, just increase the value on everyone's home. Some will dispute it, but many won't. I'd sell them my house tomorrow for what they said it was worth on my 2023 taxes, but it's not enough money for me to bother disputing it.

Plus, poorly educated voters tend to vote for increases because they don't think if affects them, and in many cases in doesn't very much (rent subsidies, Section 8).

Depends on where you live I suppose. They’re very low for my house and our public services and utilities are arse. To get nicer public services you need money. Has to come from somewhere. I get your point on sales tax but shite is already expensive as it is and if your city looks like a dump because the city lacks funding then people won’t visit and drive up sales tax anyway so who is it wasted on apart from people who already live there.

I just don’t see how one can ignore what elimination of income tax has done for other southern states.

It's hard to say it will ever be fixed.

Politics is a big issue, but that's inherently a culture and people issue. LA residents have been voting for crooks for far too long.

There's also a large population of people that have no interest in bettering themselves or their community and thrive on victim status.
