cannot identify the very few venomous snake species in the US.
Do you not live in Louisiana?
I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a snake that wasn't venomous.
I haven't seen a water snake in years. King snake since I was maybe 15.
It's all moccasins and dick head rattle snakes.

I wasn’t referring to the population of venomous snakes but the few different species of venomous snakes compared to non-venomous snakes.
Pretty easy to identify rattlesnakes, moccasins and copperheads from all the other non-venomous snakes. The coral is the one that would be the most challenging to distinguish from the non-venomous snakes that share similar patterns. You can use the rhyme for the US, but shouldn’t be relied on elsewhere.

I see snakes in my yard fairly often but have yet to see a venomous one in 11 years - rat snakes, kings, garters, ribbon, racers.
