I don’t think he was going to give up 5 runs like the bullpen did. They mainly pulled him due to pitch count

I’m not sure…….but after Skenes was pulled, am I watching the Pirates or LSU? That pitching move by Pirate’s coach looks eerily familiar.

Nah. He started missing the zone. So therefore They stuck to their pitch count and pulled him instead of letting him finish the inning.

Lost his confidence after the homerun. which is rare for him, but it was his debut so things are heightened.

I hope it gets rained out. The fans deserve a refund.

All the bullpen had to do was get one more out before the rain delay. Getting shelled is understandable. Walking in three straight runs is disgraceful.

Dedicated working Saturday at 5, unless you’re young and in the service industry then you have no choice. Keep working nothing good to see here.

This is what's needed on SEC games. If they did, it "may" cause the shitty SEC umps improve or get the hell out.

How does the coach let the dude walk 3 guys in a row. Bs

I think they have a rule now where a reliever has to face at least 3 batters.

Plus you need to get a replacement warmed up.

Paul, as a wise man once said:

Paul Skenes notches first major league strikeout on 101 mph fastball

by:Wade Peery•about 3 hours

Former LSU star pitcher Paul Skenesfinally got the call up to the major leagues on Saturday to perform for the Pittsburgh Pirates. And he didn’t disappoint. He checked in with some serious smoke from the jump, striking out his first batter on a fastball that was clocked at 101 miles per hour.

The former top overall pick in the draft threw 10 fastballs in the first inning alone, with the slowest clocking in at 99.8 miles per hour.

With his first four batters, Skenes struck out the second batter with an offspeed pitch. He walked the third batter he faced, and then forced the fourth batter to hit a long fly ball that was caught by the Pirates outfielders.

Skenes, who was the No. 1 overall MLB Draft pick in 2023, has thoroughly impressed in the minor leagues. He threw for three different teams in 2023 and put together a 5.40 ERA after making five starts. However, he would significantly improve in 2024 as he got more comfortable.

The talented flamethrower has played in 12 games for the Pirates in the minor leagues, allowing a batting average of .179, with an ERA of 1.85, while throwing 55 strikeouts. Those impressive numbers got him the call-up from the franchise.

Mate any tips or secrets about Oakland ballpark? Parking? Best sites near area?

Park on the south side of the ballpark toward the far rear of the lot (to the east and away from the Bay, next to the Uber/Lyft pick up/drop-off area). Easier and quicker to get out the back way onto Hegenburger then to 880 N or S. The north parking lot has only one exit on to 66th Street. The south side has two exits. Parking was $40 for Warrior games, not sure what the charge is for baseball.

Have not been up to Oracle since the Warriors moved to SF, so not sure what restaurants are still open near the stadium. Scott's Seafood and Everett and Jones BBQ in Jack London Square Jack London Square.com are solid choices, but not in the immediate area of the stadium, but they are within 5 miles. Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley has a myriad of food options (have had everything from Cajun to Ethiopian on Shattuck). Visit Berkeley.com

Another option for getting to the coliseum is riding BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), There is a station at the stadium.

Yes pitch count was the biggest thing, he'd not pitched more than 75 pitches in the minors and they were not going to let him go much past that. I think they let him stay in for Suzuki because he'd made him look bad the first two times. But the lefty Bellinger was up next then after that Morel who had absolutely crushed two balls off him earlier so even if the pitch count was 80 I doubt they'd have left him in after Suzuki.

I think he will be too, 102 plays at any level when you have good secondary stuff and Skenes does.

That rotation in Pittsburg with Jones, Keller and Skenes will be formidable in the not so distant future, but it phenom pitchers need time to develop and adjust just like any other MLB player. Baseball is hard.
