Maybe that’s what is happening to those soccer players that hit the ground like a sniper got ‘em.

Found a nest in the outside wall of my house. Sprayed the entrance good. Little did I know they had an emergency exit on the inside wall. They started coming inside and boy were they pissed.

Yellow jackets and yellow/green ground hornets will make you forget your hangnail. Fact.

Nobody that has ever had an encounter with yellow jackets underestimates them. Dumb thread.

What are you calling a green ground hornet? Sweat bees? Is there another name for them?

You are correct. Bumble bees make yellow jackets look like mosquitos. The bumble bees are the true badasses of ground nesters. Those are some seriously mean frickers if you get near their nest.

My Pops and I were digging fence post holes decades ago. It was through red clay so it was kicking our butts. He would go for a while then we would switch off. It was his turn so he starts going to town and the next thing I know he throws the post hole digger down and starts running. He is hollering something but I couldn’t make it out for a few seconds. Finally I realized he is saying bees. So I took running too. Crazy thing was we where standing right next to each other. They ate him up but I got nothing. It was yellow jackets but in the heat of the moment I guess all he could get out was bees.

Might have been a yellow jacket but they seem to have some green but I was running my arse off back to the house after going over a hole in the ground while cutting the coulee beyond my backyard a few years ago. It was dusk and as soon as it got dark I poured a gallon of gasoline on the hole and never saw them again. Had 3 or 4 bites that messed me up for a few days.

EDIT - something like this below

As a kid at about 5 years old I stepped in a tire in a weedy lot and got lit up by a dozen of yellow jackets and that is also seared into my mind as well them

I’ve only had 2 encounters with bumble bees. The first was weedeating a fence. They chased me over 50 yards. I can’t recall how many times they got me. I killed the last one with my hand after it stung me on the top of the head through my hat. It then stung me in my hand. The next time was on the bush hog. Those frickers just don’t stop. They got me and the dog real good that time. Me and the catahoula were both swollen for days. Bumble bees are bad to the bone.

Mowing the yard and running over an underground yellowjacket nest is one of life's most miserable events.

And those frickers Chase you. At least red wasps you can run 10 yards and they’ll leave you alone

I agree. Brent Key has them headed in the right direction. One of the tougher schedules this upcoming season. And you’re right, those stings hurt like a mofo

Exactly. I've had to jump in a pond to escape them.

On a related note. Dont do this with fire ants. They'll all sting at once when you hit the water.

Mosquito’s, heat, humidity and Yellowjackets are just some of the reasons to love summer in the South.

I had my best round of golf ever when I got stung by a yellow jacket on my left hand at the ball washer before the second tee. That bastard got me on my thumb through my golf glove.

Swole up real nice and prevented my habitual slice.

technically, Yellowjackets are a type of hornet.
what most people refer to as just hornets is usually the Bald Faced hornet.

They haven’t stung me in the hand, I’m sure that hurts. But I got stung by a yellow jacket twice a few summers ago and I was surprised how little it hurts compared to a wasp.

Not under-rated if you've ever experienced their ferocity. Had my arse eaten up many times - last time they chased me almost 100 yards and across a shallow creek crossing to my buggy. They are the worst.
