I mean, he is a father whose 13 year old daughter is missing then all of a sudden some man drops her off.

Does Uber have anything in place so that anyone under the age of 18 has to get an approval to get an Uber? Because if you see some random man bringing your daughter home late at night/early morning the first thing you would want to know is why is a 13 year old in his car.

You can't blame the dad for what he did. He might have over reacted... Maybe? I am sure some people think so, but its instinct for a father to protect his daughter, which is why if I was an Uber driver I would have a problem driving minors without parent consent. That just seems to be asking for a problem.

I don't get this mentality that this is acceptable behavior without even knowing what is going on other than your daughter is actually being dropped off. I would questioning her first.

I haven't read the full story, but could he not ask the guy to stop without freaking pulling a gun on him? Sheesh.

Yes, Uber has a system for minors that sends notifications and/or approval requests to parents when the ride is requested. It also allows parents to track the rides of their children.

That said, I have no idea whether the driver’s app lets them know if they’re picking up a minor. I don’t see why it would need to, though - ultimately whoever requests the ride is either an adult or a minor with parental permission.

I have a daughter. I can understand the anger in that scenario. But if you’re going to force someone out of their car at gunpoint, you better be damn sure that you’re on solid legal ground. He’s not “protecting” his daughter at that point; his daughter is back at home. He’s looking for someone other than his daughter to blame for her behavior.

I would think that a 13 yo who is determined enough to sneak out and go to another city is probably going to find a way to circumvent this.
