Instead you want the same impact as BI regardless of fit.

For all his faults, he's a top 40-50 player

This draft pick is lucky to be a Dyson Daniels

Hawkins as a rookie is almost certainly going to be better than 5 as a rookie and we all saw how much run Hawkins got.

This is a complex incorrect answer based on pure spectrum of bullshite.

but also the really good player we would get in the trade

Does this exist?

This discussion is about a pick-centered trade

I love how you decided no one picked at 5 in this draft will do anything. Have you pro scouted every guy in this draft to make this determination??

The Rockets are likely to make the No. 3 overall pick available in trade discussions for a win-now piece, per @wojespn.

After aggressively pursuing him at the trade deadline, don’t be surprised if Houston circles back around with the Nets on Mikal Bridges.

Jabari and 3 for BI and 21. I want to believe

Lol sucks in franchise player talent. That doesn’t mean there aren’t very good players in this draft. I think you’re literally acting like these guys won’t be in the NBA after 3 years. Thats absurd.

No

But all the guys who know the draft basically universally agree it sucks

That means it's highly unlikely to get an impact player at 5, but obviously not impossible. Jokic and Herb were 2nd rounders, you know. No reason we can't draft those types in the 2nd every year.

Somebody brought up 2020 earlier

Go look at 2-10

In franchise changing talent yes. That doesn’t mean there aren’t impact players at other levels.

You’re comparing the fifth pick to the 2nd round??? Yeah I think you’re definitely on the spectrum.

Then we should trade BI for vet role players instead of gambling on hopefully getting one at 5. We have the salary to do that

Thats not a bad option but neither is the draft. I just think its silly to completely dismiss the draft because analysts think it doesn’t have a franchise difference maker.

You think lamelo is a negative asset? Lol what?

And why cant we look at picks in the first round below 10? oh it doesn’t fit your argument there- got it lol

The counterpoint is we'll never attract good to great players in free agency, and also, we are not close to being a contender now, so while you're correct a vet role player is the safer option, a team and situation like we're in it could be argued it's worth the risk of the downside to take the swing to get the potential upside of the pick that the vet role player doesn't provide.

Basically, you want to take as many shots as you possibly can to get a really good player because franchises like ours don't generally get many of those opportunities.

We really missed the boat when that trade went down. I think the Nets at the time would have loved to get BI to replace Durant instead of Bridges.

We’re not going anywhere with BI at this point. And this team is not competitive in the West. Probably half of the teams would have swept us.

As frustrating as it is, playing the lottery with draft picks is our best bet.

This draft is Trash, we'd be doing them a favor. The number one pick will have a more likely chance of being just a starter and hopefully maybe an all star appearance on the high end

so literally what Brandon Ingram has done but on a rookie contract. I’ll roll the dice on that.
