The counterpoint is we'll never attract good to great players in free agency, and also, we are not close to being a contender now, so while you're correct a vet role player is the safer option, a team and situation like we're in it could be argued it's worth the risk of the downside to take the swing to get the potential upside of the pick that the vet role player doesn't provide.


Basically, you want to take as many shots as you possibly can to get a really good player because franchises like ours don't generally get many of those opportunities.

They're only "Safer" is because they're already guaranteed to be what this majority of draft projects to be as a ceiling.

That "potential upside" is the problem in this draft.

That's NFL draft philosophy more than NBA draft philosophy.

The comparable NBA draft philosophy is to get as many picks as you can over time, so that when you get lucky and get a top-2/3 pick in an elite class, you get that guy. You don't accumulate picks when you know the draft is weak and then pray
