A swimming pool in … an NFL stadium? Welcome to U.S. Olympic trials
In a bold ploy to expand the reach of swimming, the 70,000-seat home of the Indianapolis Colts has been transformed from a football field into the world’s biggest aquatic arena.

The temporary pools came from northern Italy. The two million gallons of water came from a fire hydrant on South Capitol Ave., via 6,000 feet of piping that snakes through an NFL stadium. The swimmers will come from all over the United States, and step onstage near what’s usually the 45-yard line. And from June 15-23 in Indianapolis, they’ll take part in a grand, unprecedented experiment — all while trying to qualify for the Olympics.
It’s “crazy,” Bobby Finke, a 2021 gold medalist, said of the plan for this year’s U.S. Olympic swimming trials — crazy in a good way.
“It’s wild,” and “bananas,” USA Swimming chief commercial officer Shana Ferguson told Yahoo Sports last month as she surveyed the project from inside Lucas Oil Stadium.
The 70,000-seat home of the Indianapolis Colts, over the past month, has been transformed from a football field into the world’s biggest aquatic arena.
It’s a bold, grandiose ploy to expand the reach and scale of swimming, and its execution, Ferguson says, revolved around one core question: “How in the heck are we gonna put swimming pools in a football stadium?”

What if the jumbotron falls in?

I guess diving isn't happening there

I think that's pretty cool. Good idea to get attention and get more people in.

It’s a great idea that should be a lot of fun. I’m sure the MSB will hate it.

The last 4 were in Omaha, in a building that doesn't have a pool.

Great job Indy. This is great. I am not a swimming fan except every four yrs and then.. It's a highlight. Wish Jacksonville would figure out a to way to make something like this happen

It's a pretty cool idea and hopefully it works out for them. Just hard for me to see it.

Thanks brother, wife and daughter will love the link.
Daughter swims club and H.S. and has qualified for zones and Speedo regionals, but the amount of high-school aged talent that have Olympic time-trial metrics is staggering.
Team USA is stacked with talent, and USA Swimming finally grew a pair and told the William Thomas’s of the world you’re a tranny and a man, you can’t compete as a woman.
Awesome to see that they kept prices reasonable for the swim community. Olympic trial prices for gymnastics are outrageous.

Each day has a prelims session 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, with races to determine which athletes go to semi-finals and finals. The semi-finals and finals sessions take place 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm, with an Olympian named to Team USA every night. Prelims sessions start at $15 and finals start at $35.

Daughter did gymnastics for 6 years until injures caught up with her. Had absolutely no clue how huge club swimming is, it’s off the charts and generates a shite load of $$$ for those communities with top notch facilities.
Typically you have a 3/4 day meet with prelims and finals with 2 sessions a day divided by age. That’s hotel rooms, food and drinks, and entertainment for hundreds of people locally. To put it into perspective my daughter’s club team practices and host meets at MU Aquatics Center. When we host a meet it’s the equivalency of an SEC football weekend.

My daugther did the same. Her claim to fame was that she got to swim against and get lapped by Kate Ziegler who was an Olympian.

Because Olympic swimming ability is 80% genetics.
