This is either an incredibly stupid (poor planning...no surprise) or incredibly douchebag move.

That is all that deserves to be said on the matter.

It's a tough situation for everyone.Miles should get some credit for signing a top eight class with all of them qualifying.

If several had not qualified,Miles would be catching hell for signing kids that would never see the field.

I woudn't be surprised if Porter takes a grey shirt.

Les Miles on Elliot Porter today...

Do you think it was done intentionally?

it was done out of stupidity. a recurring theme under les

this situation could have been easily avoided with some intelligence, planning, and forethought

You don't know that Miles didn't ask every signee to grey shirt and they refused

Message boards are not Gospel. I saw on an earlier post today where a guy claimed to have an IQ of 161,and I know damn well that's a lie.
So who knows the truth on a message board?

it can be, but it won't. CFB is a good ole boys club and doing something like suing schools is a huge no no

SFP you cannot truly believe this. The law is the law(good ole boy network WTF). The LSU athletic department has a legal department which means they have many Jakes looking at this, even you cannot be this self obsorbed to think this is illegal in any way.

something doesn't have to be illegal to be subject to a lawsuit.

if you oversign, you must have certain kids who sign knowing that if everyone qualifies, they will GS

if you don't do this, your recruiting plan lacks intelligence, planning, and forethought

This article gives a good explanation of what a school can do after a recruit signs.

bullshite, he cut a player TODAY to get to 85. In addition to the flat out cut, he also had to grey-shirt two other players. No one knows the particulars because the players are not talking but it's funny how all the rantards assume Saban and his staff had everything planned out and Miles and his staff are flying by the seat of their pants. The ONLY difference in the two situations is the LSU player got his feelings/pride/ego bruised.

It is a letter of intent...not a scholarship contract.

Have you ever (as an attorney or personally) been involved in a letter of intent? Were they binding in the sense that you are trying to make it in this case?

These are not rhetorical questions.

This whole debate is a joke. This is what happens in college football all over the country. Get over it. Nothing is guaranteed to the athlete, even the scholarship is on a year-to-year basis.

Les and the crew did a damn good job getting so many high quality recruits that they all qualified. Thats not a knock, it's an accomplishment.

Its not freaking dirty. What was Les supposed to do at that point? He had no choice. Every school over signs, its so rare so have everyone qualify.

And he also sign a letter of intent....intent being the key word there. Nothing was official yet. I know these kids are 18 yrs old, but thats life. Better to learn early than late.

So you'd be cool if you showed up to school your freshman year as a regular student and they told you, "Sorry...you don't have a scholarship here anymore. You can either not go to school this semester or you can pay out of your pocket. If you want, you can come back in January. Yeah, sorry if you could've gone to another school on scholarship. shite happens, oh well."

LOI are binding in that the player cannot sign/go anywhere else without losing eligibility unless the UNIVERSITY releases him from it.

It gives all the power to the school, which is part of the problem. People keep bitching about how schools get screwed by recruits but then seem to be fine with schools screwing recruits.

JJ27, you forgot a part:

"You can come back in January and while we won't have a contract GUARANTEEING you a scholarship, you will have one."

These kids are at the will of the coaches if they greyshirt. That's the sad part. Why should he trust Miles to give him that scholarship in January if he pulled the one in the fall?
