Osu doesn't have a good connection with Cincinnati, nd has the pipeline in there. I'm not shocked when we lose a top recruit from there. Northeast Ohio is osu's best place, outside of central Ohio

yea----ND has the pipeline to the catholic schools----if there is ever going to be a midwestern revival i think ND or OSU will be the ones lead the way----they both are the only midwestern schools to consistently recruit well and have the best facilities/resources-----ND just wastes alll its talent, lol---------

Here's an '09 article that has tOSU and Texas as the top two jobs:

SI: Coaching Destination jobs

I'd say Texas is probably #1 at present. PSU is still a top ten or 15, but that's predicated on the notion that JoePa will ever officially retire and admit that he no longer coaches the team. I think the son of a bitch is too vain and will be clinging to that title til they cart him off.

What kind of ahole would agree to have a statue erected while he's still "coaching?"

Only Joe Paterno and Bud Kilmer.

This.

You could say the same thing for LSU though:

I think this is the move.

Actually, you can make a pretty good case that JoePa is currently underacheiving. I think people compeltely underestimate just how large and fertile PSU's recruiting ground is. One you get north of the Mason-Dixon line, there are no top tier programs on the coast. PSU is really the only national power that is a local destination for that enitre region. PSU should own Pennsylvania, NY, NY, and all of New England. That's a huge footprint, dominated by one program. Rutgers and UConn are getting good, but they are nowhere near PSU's level.

No way this happens. The alumni would revolt. They affectionately refer to him as Fredo.

while we're on the subject, is there any job thats even close to texas?

you got:

best recruiting ground
facilities as good as anyone, if not better
as much money as anyone, if not more
and a largely apathetic fanbase

And a good, big city like Austin. I guess it varies by preference, but if I was a coach in his 30s-60s with family, I couldn't live in a college town.

PSU is still one of the top 25 money making football schools. they could offer some serious money for a good coach

there isn't a rabid urban (ie black) football following for this region to proclaim it that elite

i'd wager SETX alone produces more legit recruits than that region

They have the 2nd largest stadium in the country and a terrific recruiting base. They have the $$$ to land a top notch coach.

Yea, JoePa simply doesn't demand that much or he'd get it. Difference of generations I guess.

I heard he lives a fairly basic life and gives alot of what he makes right back to the school. His house is on campus.

I think you are right about this. Bear Bryant didn't make a whole lot either during his tenure. At this point, I think Penn State is letting Paterno coach as long as he wants to. The next coach will cost them considerably more money...

Anybody think they could pry Jon Gruden from the MNF booth? I would love to see him bring the passion that he has to a good college program

He could take them places
