I retired from exxon last year and all my working buds and I laugh at each other when we hear them tell their friends and family how hard they have to work in the refinery.

Thanks for the information LSUDAD, I'm not planning on unloading any more. My portfolio was top heavy with exxon since I retired. It was just terrible timing deciding to adjust it in october before this last run started.

The Baton Rouge plant is closing a unit for a turnaround, Exxon announced yesterday.

LINK

This has nothing to do with money or finance. I just wanted to look really, really informed about my largest holding....

"A unit"

Not the plant...

This rate is a little low. Close, but still low.

I have zero knowledge about either one of those....not that that fact normally prevents me from offering an expert opinion.

LSUDad, I will butt in with direct experience with my wife's holding in Franklin Income fund. She holds the no load version of the fund with cheaper expenses. The fund performed miserably, I mean awful, in 2008. It holds the junkiest assets of the utility industry, equity and bonds. Your other choice is also fairly high risk and has very high expenses, plus the 1% load. See here, then go to portfolio tab:

FCISX

The risk vs the category competitors is extremely high.

If it is income you are seeking you might consider a combo of VPU/VIG paired with an investment grade short to intermediate duration corporate bond fund. VPU is a US utilities equity ETF, VIG is a multi industry dividend achiever ETF with low beta, and the bond fund would be multi industry as well. That might afford you better upside and downside than the funds discussed.

The Franklin fund has recovered, but that is not what investors seeking fairly consistent value + income should be seeking. She slipped that one by me.

Let's see if this rings a bell. I'm from south ark, unfortunately I still speak like it, nickname has been 'big boy' but not for the preferred reason , very relaxed and laid back. Does that help?
I'm also a lsudad X2.
