Can anyone tell me the length of a loaf? Is it 24inches? I need to figure out how many loaves I need to send someone to pick up for 25 people with 3inch cuts.

I want to say it was around 28-30in. I bought lots of them but can't remember exactly what size it was. I know the unwrapped ones (food service ones) were longer than the reising. I could tell you when I got home tonight after I look at an invoice from them but that may be too late.

Ok so I would need 3 and have some left. That would be perfect.

What makes a po-boy special is the bread. A po-boy isn't a po-boy unless it's made with good quality, fresh French bread. New Orleans French bread has a crunchy crust with a very light center. The loaves are about 3' in length, and are about 6" in circumference. Time was that many a corner bakery made their own French bread, but there are only three bakerys left in town that make true French bread: Gendusa's, Leidenheimer's, and Binder's. [Note: The "wonderfully stubborn Reising family" were bought out by Leidenheimer's.] Many of the larger grocery stores make bread that they call "French bread," but it's not made in the old brick ovens that the real bakeries use, so it doesn't come out with the same contrast between crust and center.

I think that may be talking about the restaurant supply one that JasonL was talking about. I dont believe the standard loaf sold in stores is that long.

This, I think they are only like $3 or less a loaf at the grocery store. Make some bread pudding with the leftovers.

I thought the ones poboy places get are 48 inches. After cutting off the "tetons" they can get 4 11-inch sandwiches out of them.
