as a father of twin boys who are now 7, good luck. The first 18 months really suck. The kids themselves are great, but it is all the other stuff that you have to do. It is almost impossible to go anywhere solo for those 18 months, because the kids are so dependent. Even a quick trip to the grocery store is a production. Once you get there EVERYONE wants to ask you about them. " ARE THEY TWINS?" you will hear that shite in your sleep. It is awesome to watch them grow and great when they start to figure things out, but mine NEVER slept for any long amount of time until that 10-12 month range. Then we would get a few hours at a time here and there. Not saying this to scare, just to prepare.
Also, mine had to spend a week longer than their mom was in the hospital in the NICU due to underdeveloped lungs they were born at 36 weeks and weren't quite ready. I was not prepared for the 12 day long stay in the hospital. My boys are my little buddies and I love them to death. They have helped make me the man I am today, but it would have been nice if they would have slept a little more.
-keep on the same schedule
-sleep when you can
-accept any help that you can get
-remember that when you are sleep deprived that you might not make the best decisions on what to say to your wife and sometimes it is better to not say anything than to get sarcastic, because she is sleep deprived too and it will not end well for you.( this is a big one)
Good luck!
