Yes, the traffic is awful. My biggest issue is that given the population of Baton Rouge, there is no reason traffic should be as bad as it is.
A loop and getting rid of the Washington exit would fix so much. That's an issue that will never get fixed and that horse has been beat to death multiple times.

Come down I-10 from Laffy on a Friday at about 4:00. That is the biggest cluster frick. Basically three lanes on I-10 converges into one. Whoever designed that shite should have the balls drug across a bee hive full of honey then dipped in a fire aunt pile.

Yea eastbound over the bridge is pretty terrible, but once you get around Acadian it opens back up. Just get off at Nicholson, take Government to Acadian and back on the interstate to avoid most of that. The Nicholson lane is usually open with everyone trying to stay on the interstate. Or take one of the northbound lanes and get off on North Blvd., whichever appears to be the better option.

Nope. It sucks we don't have more lanes on the interstate and some surface streets but some people on here act like BR has the worst traffic in the nation.

Herein lies your problem. Poor infrastructure planning. Austin has pretty much the same issues. Whenever you have a major interstate running through the middle of town and it's chock full of 18-wheelers day in and day out, it's a recipe for disaster. The problem is compounded in cities like BR and Austin because locals use the interstate for their daily commutes.
The geniuses running our city have decided that the best way to combat congestion on our other major thoroughfare (Mopac), is to narrow the lanes and add an HOV toll lane, which probably won't get used by enough drivers to make much of a difference.

I didn't choose to live, work, workout, and grocery shop all downtown because the traffic elsewhere in BR "is not that bad". It is frick awful, and I've lived in several parts of town.

It's not so bad during rush hour during the summer months. But during the months when school is in, the traffic is a burden. It's incredibly annoying when everything blows up because of a rain shower, too.
The main problem is everyone uses the interstates to get to and from work. There just aren't enough options.

understatement of the year. They are deplorable in every sense. Of course, the same can be said for 99.99999% of the streets in the entire state.
How the state of Louisiana and the local munis get away with their dereliction and misspending of tax payer money is unfathomable to me.

Here's my daily problem.
My house is off Essen behind CB&I between I10/I12. I commute from Geismar via 1-10 every single day. I get to bluebonnet in an easy 20minutes and then BOOM dead stop traffic getting OFF AT THE ESSEN exit. The problem is everyone is trying to cut through Essen to I12 because the interstate to take the loop is a clusterfrick. 20 minutes to my exit at Essen and another 30min waiting to get to my house which is literally 100yds from the interstate. frick you Baton Rouge

We have beat the loop and Washington Street exits over and over and over. Has anyone came up with a plan to try and reduce the number of accidents in the first place?
Would banning cell phones do any good? Probably not as I still see people texting and driving daily. Maybe we should increase the fines to something that would really hurt if you were ticketed for that offense?
Would increasing patrols on the interstates help drivers slow down or would it cause more accidents? In the morning, I routinely see drivers exceeding 80 mph on the interstate weaving in and out of traffic. I'm not sure if having the PoPo patrol the interstate more would slow them down or not?
Would restricting 18 wheelers to specific lanes help reduce the number of accidents?
The OT is full of brilliant minds so surely they know how to reduce the number of accidents on an interstate...they just haven't been asked yet.

It once took me 45 minutes to get from Midtown Manhattan to the Lincoln Tunnel, which is about a mile and a half. Compared to that, BR traffic is not bad. Compared to anything else, it's atrocious.

I do think the traffic complaints tend to be overblown at times
I think people expect to be able to go 10 mph over the limit, even at peak times and complaint about traffic when they have to slow to 40 mph
I don't think BR is all that bad, but part of that is because it isn't too spread out so even a slower commute doesn't necessarily mean a lot of time added to normal commute times
I don't have a real solution to the problem that wouldn't come with a hefty price tag

There also needs to be a greater number of lanes on the interstates and frontage roads. And, Airline needs to be widened out to Prairieville, too.
There are no amounts of cell phone bans or police patrols that will help congestion. The restricted lanes for 18 wheelers would basically be a Loop.
