Why do you hate Eugene?

Intimidated?

He's annoying AF, and all his ridiculous lines that are meant to be funny (I guess?) just make me roll my eyes. And he put everyone at risk by lying to them.

No kidding. He is the only source of comic relief on the show, which is much needed for a show this intense.

(Speaking of which, seems like the people leading the herd would have blown their horns in response to keep the walkers' attention. They should have been a lot closer to the walkers and so their horns and or other noise should have trumped the far away ones).

Yeah, they never do shite like that. I don't understand why they don't use more tactics like that. I guess with this particular thing though, is you have a line of walkers a mile(s) long, so the car/motorcycle horns would only distract the ones in the immediate front.

I remember when they were in the prison I always said they should have cars randomly stationed in the woods so that when they get overcome with walkers, they just set off the alarms and draw them away.

Did you all find this episode particularly funny? I watched it at the premier party on Friday and I swear every other line the entire place was dying of laughter.

I'm also convinced the walker herd was the Wolves' doing as well.

I think Heath said who did that, and they all died.
but I'll have to rewatch it to be for sure.

I'm pretty sure someone from Alexandria said they'd found the quarry on an earlier scouting mission and it was a camp with just a dozen or so people in it. They had fortified their camp with the trucks, but then died, and it gradually just filled up with walkers. As they kept making more and more noise they attracted more walkers who fell into the pit creating the horde.

And in the entirety history of the Alexandria settlement, no one thought, "hey, let's go check on that camp IN THE GIANT frickING WALKER TRAP JUST A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD."

Those people are naïve to the point where they really should have died months ago. I'm all with Rick on that one.

They should use them as a defense to surround the neighborhood. For lack of a better word, and as much as I don't want to fricking bring it up...they should use the walkers as a moat ( ) to protect from outside forces (Wolves, other humans, etc.). It should be pretty easy to do, and as long as your walls were sturdy, the interior of the neighborhood would be safe.

The problem with this is that you do have to leave to get supplies and stuff. Opening the gate becomes a chore every time you need to go out, and one day, shite will hit the fan.

Pretty much this. I always chuckle at people who freak out when characters don't follow the simple and logical way to do something. It would make for boring TV...and then they would bitch about that.

I kinda disagree with that.

Well, not with the principle, but more in this case particularly. The last few pages have had people talking about setting off an explosion or burning the horde. Well, you can't do that....for several reasons.

First of all, to burn that many would waste too much gasoline, which I assume to be precious despite the show telling me otherwise (like ammo ). Secondly, you can't really realistically burn that many anyway. Thirdly, and most importantly, that would create an ENORMOUS amount of smoke, which would catch the attention every human within 50 miles.

As for the explosion angle, that wouldn't really work either. First of all, the explosion itself would attract not only more walkers, but humans as well (same with the resulting smoke as mentioned above). But what are you gonna use for explosives? Using grenades or anything you currently have seems like just a waste. Anything else you'd either have to find or create. And an explosion would knock off the trucks in the way as well, which would let most of the walkers escape, which gets you back to Rick's plan anyway.

You could shoot them, but there are thousands of walkers and you a) likely don't have enough ammo (except that Rick and co. have ammo trees) and b) would just be wasting it anyway. And that would also lure in more walkers as well as any humans within gunshot sound distance.

So the best, easiest, and most logical thing to do is what Rick sugegsted. Lead them away from your spot and let them be someone else's problem. Not to mention that those walkers add a layer of defense (see my moat post earlier) against bad shite. And especially since walkers are so easily distracted that you can literally herd thousands of them simply by riding a motorcycle really slow in front of them. They're almost comically stupid, like you could just hang Judith stick and carrot style on the front walker and watch as the whole horde follows them away.

And for some reason, Morgan with the bo staff is hilarious to me. Talk about a useless "weapon" for a ZA.

The trick is to polish it up all the time. When it's nice and shiny it cuts through walker heads like a katana.

Also, I'm only about 15 pages through the thread, but does anybody else think they should use those walkers to their advantage?

It's just too many to control. My first thought was they were weaponizing it against the wolves, but it seems like a one shot deal that requires lots of prep and planning. Maybe you respond to a Governor type by unleashing the horde, but it does nothing for you ahead of time.

Not at all really.

And I agree with whoever it was above that said that almost everything Eugene says makes me cringe instead of laugh. I get what kind of character he is, but they try too hard with him most of the time and it's pretty silly/stupid.

He's basically Screech Powers.

But you could use the "row of cars"technique for that. And have one at the end blocking it off that you can move and use as a "door."

It would be pretty easy to do and maintain. Plus, you could use the surrounding areas (some of which would be "safer") to go out and train the residents with.

Biggest flaw in the episode. I can buy herding the living dead, but Abraham should be able to handle his liquor better than that.

It appears they have the code for unlimited ammo and headshots activated. Should have just sniped all 2,000 walkers and been done with it.

A walker-filled moat around Alexandria would be a pretty sweet idea...
