Bender
someone posted on MORE SPORTS board that Heild hit on 85 of 100 3 point shots from the NBA line in his tryout for Boston.
I like Bender anyhow. Helld will be guarded in games.

He was guarded like glue in college and still managed to shoot close to 50% from deep.

bender would be the pick
Don't get too excited if they pick the player you want , could be traded away minutes later
NBA is crazy
All about the Cap

Trading back doesn't seem like an option unless you can get a good player in return. Just take BPA and try to develop the team.

What if the BPA on YOUR teams board was a guy you knew you could get at 9? Then, wouldn't trading back and picking up 27 make sense?
If those three are gone, I don't think Chriss or Bender would be the highest guy on their board, given the mandate from ownership. Therefore, trading back for this GM would make sense, even though I would be begging them to take Bender, who is #4 on my board

If the mandate is win now, which is dumb, nobody in the draft is going to come in and make us a playoff team. If they were, they would be gone in the first five.

Both of those are bowls of meh. I'd rather just stay put and get a good player, even if he requires some development. Anyone you get later will require development, too.

Some draftniks don't see much separation in quality between 6 and 16 this year. If you believe that and trust your evaluations and development process, it's a worthy gamble.

Oh the Pels will likely find a way to screw it up.
I'm not up on the draft too much, but I do think this is one of those years where there isn't as much of a gap between mid lottery and mid 1st as usual. Just my take after some light reading; could easily be way off.

How do those late 1s work out in the new salary cap world? I know they were kind of take it or leave it a couple years ago because you are giving a guaranteed contract to a marginal pick, does the higher cap really make it that much better?

I mean, the 27th pick this year will be making 1 percent of your cap in 2017, 2018, etc
To put it in perspective, that is about half of what a min contract took up in past years.
If that guy hits, you are way ahead of the curve. Even if that guy becomes a Norman Powell, solid 8th man type, you are underpaying him by 500% or more of current market value. And you have him for 4-5 years locked in at that price unless he hits the starters criteria, in which case he makes a little more but you would happily pay 3 percent of your cap to a guy starting or playing 2000 mins per year

The back half of the draft guys from last year started about $1.1 million and in their 4th year will be at $2.2, then they become RFAs. As long as they are better than a guy you can get off the street it's a pretty good deal.

Exactly. If there is really a win now mandate, then a rookie would not be in the plans. If the alleged win now mandate actually existed then Dell would have been allowed to trade the pick at the deadline for an established player, but he wasn't. He would also trade the pick for an established player now, but everyone knows that he doesn't have the authority to do that unless a legit all-star on a multi-year contract is coming our way.
ETA - Also does anyone seriously believe Ferry comes on board here if ownership is as meddlesome with the alleged win now mandate as bloggers report?

We pretty much dissected that in the Luwawu thread. Euros are playing lesser competition than the majority of college players.
