Was last night the season finale of one of the currently most popular tv shows in our society or was it just one of the last ones of this season?

Can we all agree the NBA is the 2nd most popular sport in the country?
No because the local MLB ratings dwarfs the local NBA tv ratings. Back when LeBron was in Miami, the only NBA teams that drew higher ratings than the MLB teams in their local market were the Lakers, Heat and I think one other NBA team (Cavs?). MLB teams had higher ratings than the NBA teams across the board.

Super Bowls do like 60 ratings or better. Now you know football is king!!!!
We all know that. But in the hierarchy of TV Sports Entertainment, being number 2 is pretty good.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. This is true. The NBA is the second National sports league. Baseball is a local sport, but that makes it profitable for MLB as local TV deals are rich. Everyone is making money.

Baseball is the number two sport in this country. The problem with baseball is everyone follows their team and once they are out of the playoffs stop watching. Baseball is number 2...it's not really even debatable.

quote:right. Basketball and football don't have this problem. Baseball may kill basketball in local ratings, but at the end of the day more people are interested in shite like the NBA playoffs and the finals than they are in the world series

I like how these threads always bring out the insecure baseball-only fans.
The NBA has consistently beaten in the MLB in playoffs and championships series ratings over the past several years. Not up for debate? LOL

I'm not doing this today with the baseball crowd

Actually, the NATIONAL TV ratings say otherwise.

. The Game Five series clincher on Sunday night drew a 11.7 rating or 17.2 million viewers, the most a World Series Game Five has drawn since 2003 with the Yankees against the Marlins.

These are the local TV ratings for teams with both NBA and MLB teams during the 2010 season. MLB teams had higher ratings in every market except LA, Cleveland with LeBron and Washington D.C. (Capitals actually had better TV ratings than both the Nationals and Wizards).

I actually don't find it that impressive. Mlb averaged over 10 for the world series last year ar half the population hates baseball.
I saw numbers for each of the major sports two or three years ago.
only about 25% have basketball as their #1.
baseball is a little better.
pro football is high 40's.
outside of cities where they have franchises, no one cares about hockey.

I watched the Cubs game, saw who won the basketball game on Tigerdroppings.
Cubs game was only game to go against the basketball game and Game of Thrones.
Glad LeBron won though

Baseball's a local sport. It's not an apples to apples comparison with NBA, which is a superstar-driven national sport.

Oh this has turned into that thread now...
I mean the game last night had two of the biggest stars in the NBA currently, with LeBron being the biggest. It deserved the ratings as it was a Game 7 and it remained close.

There are a lot more channel offerings now compared to 20 years ago. And now you have streaming media like Netflix that eats into TV ratings.
