My lady and I have a running joke where we argue over the blue/purple color of the Southwest planes.

I'm TEAM PURPLE. To me, the tops of the planes are definitely purple. She, on the other hand, is obviously from another planet and thinks the tops of the planes are blue.

Logo is definitely blue.

Plane looks purple in the first picture, blue in the second.... guess it depends on the background?

You're colorblind and gay for using the word "kerfuffle"

my brother in law had this same debate like 9 years ago '

We agreed that its about halfway between purple and blue and called it a day

ETA: Some of those pictures you posted are of the updated logo which is BLUE, but from about 2004-2014 it was more of a purple-ish hue.

So, I purposely put pictures of the plane in the sky to show the blue of the sky against the purple/blue of the plane.

I think that in the bottom picture, the colors of the sky and the plane are close...but I still think that in the picture the plane is purple and the sky is blue.

We were recently at MSY and in the Southwest terminal they had all the logos redone. It was definitely purple to me, plain as day. So to speak.

if you think this is purple, you in all seriousness may need to have your eyes looked at. Not like in a bad way either...I know a guy who has some type of blue/purple color differentiation issues and it's realy not a big deal.

The official color of the planes in your picture is Canyon Blue. (r 89, g 99, b 221). As you can see in their style guide below, it does certainly have a purple tint.

The new planes (and the logo in your OP) are Bold Blue.

Southwest has a new livery now. The old livery (in your pictures) was "canyon blue", the new one uses "bold blue", so according to Southwest, they are both blue.

I don't see how anyone not colorblind could call that purple. Compare it to the TD banners on the same page

It's blue.

edit: The first photo seems to be "warmer" which adds a bit of red to the blue, so I can see how one might see purple, but it's still much closer to blue than purple. But in general, photos of Southwest planes show that the paint is a shade of blue.
