The top 4 would be:

The Wire
Deadwood
The Sopranos
Curb Your Enthusiasm

The 5th would be either GoT, Flight of the Conchords, or Six Feet Under.

1. The Wire
2. The Sopranos
3. True Detective, S1
4. Curb Your Enthusiasm
5. Silicon Valley

I haven't seen GoT, Band of Brothers, or several other highly regarded HBO shows, unfortunately.

Luck had the potential to be one of best, but they shut the series down due to the death of multiple horses during shooting.

Band of Brothers, if we count it as a series.
Sopranos
Game of Thrones
Tales from the Crypt; especially for the time period.

Arli$$; I loved that show at the time. I remember him trying to deal with a hockey player, and he rented an SUV with a voice module... and the voice had a Canadian accent
"yer aboot to hit a moose hey"

It's a lot like Mad Men. You admire the writing and the acting and the execution but it just never clicked with me emotionally.

If you didn't connect emotionally with mad men then you never really watched mad men

The wire is one of those shows where you hear so many people rave about it that you're like "oh whatever" at some point and you Put it off and put it off and finally you watch it and you just know it's not gonna live up to the hype and after the first couple episodes you roll your eyes about how dull and slow it is

Then you hit the end of season 1 and you're like HOLY frick THAT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN THEY SAID IT WAS AND I MUST CONSUME ALL OF THIS NOW AGHHH

Game of Thrones
The Wire
Deadwood

Oz

I really want to find room to put The Leftovers on the list but I can't knock any of those off.

I'm a slave to HBO. I will watch most any original content that is aired. I noticed several people have shows that only lasted 1 season in their top 5. Pretty amazing. I'm pretty surprised there is no love for Extras. I'm not saying that it's a top 5 show, but it's definitely worth a watch.

1. The Wire
2. Rome
3. Deadwood
4. Sopranos
5. Entourage - Aside from Ari , the main cast wasn't that funny, but the cameos were gold.
