Always meet face to face in a well lit public area. Anyone who can't meet at the local walmart isn't worth responding to. Remember, trust but verify.

I bought my truck off of craigslist and financed through my bank. The seller was cautious and they should be. When we agreed on price I had my bank send me a check for the amount. When I had the check in my hand I met the seller at their bank and when they had the check they signed the title over to me and I dealt with all the registration.
