I 'member lots of people were pissed off when Maverick was traded to the Brewers.
Have we missed him? Is he still the can't-miss star?
If Martes and Tucker bring Quintana, I'm feeling ok with that trade.

Tucker isn't going anywhere, especially for Quintana

Quintana would certainly be an upgrade and would make us better as a team. He's a solid pitcher and is affordably controlled for the next few years.
He's likely a #2 at best. He'll give you 200 innings and a mid 3's ERA. He's solid and reliable but he's not an ace. Not a strikeout guy. Tucker and Martes plus others is a hell of a price to pay for a guy that's not the ace of a staff. He's not a Greinke, Sabathia, Price or Randy Johnson type of acquisition to bolster a staff.
I would have been fine with that package for Chris Sale. A guy who you no doubt throw in game 1 or game 7 of the playoffs. I just don't know if Quintana is the guy you use that package on or wait till midseason and see who's selling.

Hey... anyone notice, Astros had three more base running blunders today? One in the 8th inning and two in the 9th inning.
I know it is too early to be complaining, but I truly hope this season they don't pull the circus acts on the bases like they did last year.

two in the 9th inning.
The first one was not an blunder. The 3rd baseman cheated and had the entire bag blocked by his leg when the runner is definitely safe. If that's the regular season, Pettis goes ape shite complaining.
On the second, Astros were up 5-2 after the hit. I think Kemp was just trying to help steal another run by getting in a run down (and save the poor Mets reliever any more misery in a meaningless game after throwing 30+ pitches).

I'm not sure I'd be able to find the quote but I read something from Hinch about being too aggressive early last year, running into outs and getting off to a bad start.

change in players should bring about a change in philosophy

You clearly did not watch many games last year... There is a huge difference from taking chances and making mistakes on the base paths.
The Astros were an absolute terrible running team last year.

That they were. Let's hope they trust their lineup more, although I think George and Jose will still derp it up at times.

I feel like I stopped cursing Gary Pettis as the season went on and they got those things cleaned up. But early on, Pettis was repeatedly running us into outs on the basepaths and individually, Altuve was being way to aggressive and getting thrown out.

and the guy thrown out has all of 23 major league affiliated games under his belt before today

Makes it a big game today. Astros need to mark their territory.

Thoughts on the new announcer Todd Kalas? Kinda strange hearing a different voice - seems solid

So far so good for the announcers. Fires doesn't look good but it's very early.

What did you expect from him?
