that is a great idea if the super has any flexibility at all. Would make the job even simpler. Could possibly even get away with doing no dry walling at all if header is already in place.
sounds like we're beating a dead horse as far as getting changes done now though.

Finally . I do appreciate all of the advice, but unfortunately there's just nothing that can be done on the front end to get this changed. Hence me inquiring about costs on the back end.

Is DSLD building your house?

I'd rather not namedrop the builder on here, but it's a builder similar to DSLD.

Get the name and number of someone doing drywall in your house and trim, they will be working in the neighborhood, you can get them to come work for you after hours when the home is completed

I still stand by my 400 if easy or 1000 if more things are going on than is in pic.
that doesn't include cost of granite or any fancy wood beams or corbels (bar supports).
A big variable will be how much of the work whoever you hire is willing to take on. Worst case scenario is you to have to hire an electrician, carpenter, drywall guy, painter and someone to install granite. Hopefully carpenter guy is competent enough to take on most or all of these things.
Hopefully someone else will chime in to give you a better estimate.

Very nice setup with the fireplace

Roger, thanks. If someone could give me more insight as to estimates, that would be great.
I guess my last question is do you guys see any major problem with putting an interior window there based on the framing photos I posted on the first page? Obviously it seems like a much easier job than taking the whole wall out, though a header (and I assume sister studs) would have to be added.

You want another opening in between the two openings? Is that what I'm gathering?

Yessir. Just like the photo posted above.

The super will not deviate from the builder's plans. Already asked him specifically to do that. All of this is going to have to be done after the house is completed.
I'm sure you've done your best to get it done now, you just need to realize how ridiculous it is for any builder not to do such a simple request, even for a cost.
I've never heard of such a thing. I'm with wick, slip the super a 5 note and call it a day.

I'm not sure how much clearer I can make this, but I'm well aware of that. At this point, that's water under the bridge.

Fair enough. It Just angers everyone here I'm sure.
To open it afterwards would probably be 500-700 I would guess. Not much to it if you're not going to the floor or ceiling. Obviously that would beam and granite bar would add to it.

Trust me, the anger isn't lost here. It's very frustrating. I'm just not gonna dwell on it. Just trying to figure out the best way to open it up a bit, and it seems this interior window is the most cost effective way to go about going it. Something around a grand is a lot easier to justify than something around $4k, especially considering the fact that we don't plan to stay in this house for an inordinate amount of time.
I appreciate everyone's advice.

Read your contract. If they want to be dicks, haste the shite out of them.

I do this type of stuff often. I'd be glad to give you some advice and an estimate, if you like. I'll be running the roads today, depending on where you're at it can look at it today.

Looks sharp. We're building now and are going with nearly the exact same brick color and colors in the kitchen.

White on white on white baw. My wife's paint selections are racist as hell.

I'm willing to bet that they are going to drop a receptacle right in the center of that wall, which will make the whole thing slightly more complicated after the fact.
