Well unless they work 120 months in a public service job, then they don't qualify for forgiveness
More info needed on this. I'll research it later.

They make about 50k a year but don't have to pay their 200k student loans they owe.

So because of anecdotal evidence, you don't support something like this?

The only people whose education I'll pay for are my children. You borrow, you pay back or you face the consequences. No free money! Period.

The application which presumably determines eligibility is set to be rolled out this year. No one has actually been forgiven under this program yet.

This enticement is not going happen with free money from me, the taxpayer.

The negative impact of the VA alone should be enough reason to think this is stupid.
This is only going to result in shittier public employees or higher salaries.
If they want to cut 501(c)(3)s from the program I would be ok with that.

In fact, then let's abolish all taxes altogether. I'm good with that.

If we got the federal government out of student loans everyone would be better off. I'm not sure how cutting PSLF is an "answer" to the issue the government created in the first place though.

These people have to make a decade's worth of payments and are working for under market value. Do you want your D.A's office to have good prosecutors? Your local VA hospital to have good doctors? Etc

It sounds good to morons

quote:What is no comparison? The loan forgiveness is essentially a benefit for public service, contingent on 120 months of repayment. So why would you have a problem with that, and not have a problem with the salaries and other benefits your taxes pay for?
NO comparison!
And you are against the funding proposal for those school choice programs, right?

First, I don't think the federal government should be in the student loan business.
However, while it is, the public service loan program is one of the few programs the DoEd managed to get right.

It's a free market. They need to go and work wherever the pay is right. I will contribute to charities of my choice, not charities/causes picked out by the government. My local DA's office is not one of my chosen charities, and I already pay a boatload of state and local taxes.

I utilize this plan after taking a lower paying non-profit job. will never vote GOP ever again if this happens

I mean the taxpayers foot the bill whenever a deadbeat simply can't repay his or her loans. Trump hasn't done anything to fix that (like getting rid of federal loans).
Why penalize the people who are often working for below market value in important roles? They are at least trying.

You should stick to chain emails, clearly you are out of your element. I'd love to hear an explanation on how and a D.A's office, which carries out one of the few government services actually needed, is a charity? Also, I'm amused you left the VA example untouched.
