Anyone else find it odd that there are multiple posters in this thread that apparently created profiles just to comment on this? Bots or HBO promoting their doc or maybe one of the involved parties?

Very curious. And while he was a bit cold about the dog it isn’t like the deputy is the devil. The dog has been living with the family for years, I get that he wouldn’t want to just give it up.

7 Months as a Ranger is 7 Lifetimes as a Desoto County Sheriff. Lt Paul Leslie, How do you sleep at night? SFC (Ret) Randal Scott Maynard is my name. And your display of poor judgement is exactly why you have no business wearing a badge. If you lack the ability to make sound decisions then you should cut grass at the Veterans Cemetery near your home. Your lack of mental soundness displayed by the fact you could not put yourself in another citizens shoes before you made your decision is a prime example of your inability to serve your community as an officer of the law.

I'm not gonna lie - I couldn't get past the opening scene...I'll have to try again another time. Touches my heart for sure.

I find it hard to believe there are 4 or 5 lurkers who decided to come out of the darkness to rail on this.

It is common knowledge to all handlers the status of their dog. They know if they were the first handler or not, and it is common knowledge among handlers the option to adopt goes to the 1st handler. All that aside, Lt Paul Leslie was given the chance to help a True Patriot, to teach his children about selfless service, to be a leader in his community and put something bigger than himself in front of his own selfish Ideals.

LT Paul Leslie lacks the ability to posses the necessary sound judgement to be a officer of the law.

LOL...well this thread sure takes the cake.

Ranks right up with there with family members of drunk drivers who create accounts to come on here and defend their TPOS family.

I feel like I just watched a movie a couple of months ago about this similar situation. It was a female member of the military that became close with a dog that she trained and took to the middle east. Can't remember the name of the movie now.

Did not come out of Darkness, just saw the episode on a replay. And this forum came up first in a google search. Therefore, I joined just so I could tell anyone that read the post that LT Paul Leslie is unworthy of the badge he represents and the uniform he wears. I don't hide my identity I stand behind my comments.

So, a man went to war with the dog. The dog was his companion. The man was injured and the war messed him up mentally and these folks refused to let him have the dog after the dog was retired. Yep, they sound like nominees for the POS awards. What was their reasoning for not letting the man have the dog?

Dog got sold, basically, to a sheriffs office as a drug/bite dog. Deputy said he nor his department made Any such promise to give Mika back to the ranger after she was retired. Ranger tries to get dog back deputy says no, will send pictures. Ranger still tries deputy cuts off all communication. Dog dies and ranger never gets to see her again.

I thought it was completely fricked up how the cop and his wife acted.

It is without question that the dog should have been returned to its original handler. The selfish acts by LT. Leslie should serve as a learning lesson. The US Government/Military needs to hold these agencies accountable or end the dog loan program.

Randal Scott Maynard is my name. I live in Annapolis, MD I am a Veteran of Task Force 120 I stand behind my comments I do not need to hide my identity, Nor do I need to take a breather. I Stand for the Flag, I Kneel for the Fallen. I don't have FB or Twitter I have never before been moved by anothers actions, like LT Paul Leslie and his Spouse. He wears a badge that he is not worthy of representing. So, jbgleason unless you have taken your position with rifle in hand for America I don't expect you would understand. If you have, lets continue the discussion.

I watched it and as an extreme dog lover I was very moved. However, I’m not as outraged as everybody in this thread, considering that the dog had bonded with the family, and particularly because the kids had bonded with the dog . It seems that a reasonable response would have been to invite the Ranger down for a reunion and then hash it out from there. Maybe the ranger might have even agreed the best place for the dog was with this family . Sadly we will never know.
