Memphis has boarded up high rises and Nola is building like crazy. No contest all the way around

Lester Earl nailed it. I’ve lived in both.

Memphis has a society scene at least as bad as NOLA. The food sucks, crime is as bad, there are a handful of places to go, and you gets freak weather like straight line winds and massive ice storms. And their airport is a 1970’s dump with no flights anymore.

Memphis loses points with that ugly Bass Pro pyramid.

Memphis locals don’t do Beale St. That’s a tourist thing.

Memphis and New Orleans are both in the running for worst cities in America. Tennessee is an infinitely better state than Louisiana especially as far as government, taxes, and insurance.

Memphis smells better and has better suburbs.

You couldn't be more factually wrong as far as corporate presence and growth.

I lived in Memphis for 3 years. You can live in the burbs, but you can’t escape how trash that entire area is. There may not be income tax, but sales tax is god damn near 10%. And there’s a reason Memphis is so run down...black government raised property tax so significantly to try to tax whites into better funding welfare that white flight to the burbs occurred. That’s why everything there is abandoned and run down.

Why are you using this as a measurement? If you lived in either of these cities, you would spend literally zero time at these places.

Very easy choice

There are more Fortune 500 companies in Memphis than in the entire state of Louisiana.

I lived a quarter mile off poplar in those burbs out by Germantown. They found a body in the lake behind my townhouse less than a week after I moved in. I’d rather live on plank road than ever go back. It’s safer and cleaner.

I lived in Memphis for several years and am now back in Louisiana

Memphis has its issues for sure, but I’d take it over New Orleans right now.

Crime is bad, but not as random as New Orleans.

And Germantown and Collierville are so much nicer than anything innans around New Orleans.

Memphis is also very underrated as a good town. And not just BBQ.

New Orleans proper is far better than Memphis proper, but Memphis has much nicer suburbs.

This isn’t really true anymore. Was up there recently and a lot of new development. Some nic replaces within the city though there are some really shitty places you want nothing to do with.

This figures into your equation? Good Lord, your equation sucks, unless you were planning to live on Bourbon St. I lived 30 years in New Orleans and enjoyed my forays into the Quarter. You go, walk and drink then leave. Trash matters little. Memphis has four seasons, but is a shithole much in the way of NOLA with fewer redeeming qualities. Between the two, food, fishing, and NFL/NBA tip the balance to NOLA.

No hurricanes in Memphis but it's in Tornado Alley and F5 tornadoes are not out of the question. Plus the New Madrid fault line will destroy you.

Will get robbed or shot in either so it’s a tie. Buddy got robbed in Nola 2 weeks ago. Another got his truck stolen in Memphis. So it’s still a tie.
