Peavine Falls. July 4th. 8.25 miles and 1000' of climb. I'd love to get into the 7:45 range which I think is doable given that I just ran a 9.3 miles with the same climb in 8:05. Any thoughts on how to pick up speed for uphills?
Probably pick a low impact 1/2 training plan and go with that.

I’m in Cahaba HEIGHTS. We got hills. Guess I’ll be doing hill repeats for the next couple of months.

I do hill repeats at least every 3 weeks and I constantly run hills during my mid-week "easy" runs.
When I run with BTC everyone knows I will be faster than them on hills, this is going up and going back down, my hill economy is very very good.
The biggest thing with Hill Repeats is to make sure you leave it all on the road by the time your 2 minutes are up. I did hill repeats last Tuesday and would have to walk down the hill because I was pushing so hard uphill.
I hate hill repeats, but they are great.
I would do hill repeats on Stone River if I was in your area btw...

Like that heart rate isn't sustainable for 26 miles... or should I take heart rate data this late in my training cycle with a grain of salt because my body is beaten up so much?

I would try not to overanalyze heart rate data. If you feel beat up, ease off for a week and taper a bit. IMO, it's easier to judge based on how your body is feeling and not try to use strictly the numbers. Only you know how much you can put your body through. You can also put your body through a lot more than you think. You held that mid/hi 160s BPM for at least an hour, who says you can't do it for another?
As you said you are pretty beaten up already, so that should be a sign that on a good day with total preparation, you can post ideal results at double the distance.

Heart rate gonna heart rate.especially at race pace. No reason 160 isn’t maintainable for marathon. What do you really think it should be? I think the better question is how did the pace for that distance feel? If it was fairly easy even with your running build up over the past few weeks then that pace may be slightly above your current conditioning for a marathon.
At this point since this isn’t your “A”, you have two choices come race day. Take it easy and stick with slower pace / heart rate or Walter white it! Go out stick to goal pace and see how it goes. If you fall off then you adjust get to the finish line and know what needs to happen to achieve your goal at the “A” race. Life is short. Running is a hobby. Just go for it.
What 100 miler are you planning to tackle? I might know a little about running that distance.

Obviously I’m more of a go hard kind of runner, so I tend to push my limits maybe more than most. Agree with KS & Bilbeau tho. Feel is more telling than HR, esp for racing.

Yea I was gonna say according to my watch I lived at about 165 I think for grandmas. Felt easy the whole way until mile 21/22 and even then I maintained.

Thanks guys! I kinda agree with you all, why have I put myself through 3 50+ mile weeks, and SO MANY MORE MILES IN GENERAL + way more "workouts" because of those miles this time if I'm not going to leave it all out on the line.
Going into taper next week I will make sure to listen to my body and heal up the best that I can, 2 more weeks until Judgement Day, there is no going back now!
Tunnel Hill in Vienna, IL, the place for the 50 mile record. There is a loose, small gravel trail about 3 miles from my house that is VERY similar to Tunnel Hill and 17 miles in all, so I'll be training on it a lot once training starts.
I do not plan to do a 100 miler training plan, I plan to just do a Marathon Training plan with a "few" and I mean very very few, long runs that are over the 22 mile threshold. After doing a lot of research and reading about the "top talent" in the ultra scene, it pretty much appears that most of the top athletes still just keep the "under 3 hours" rule in place when training.
Going into taper next week I will make sure to listen to my body and heal up the best that I can, 2 more weeks until Judgement Day, there is no going back now!

I did the Mercedes Half in 1:40 and maintained a HR of 180. 1:15 at Statue to Statue at 180. That’s about 93% of my max HR.
I have noticed with the zone 2 stuff, that it is taking more effort to get into zone 2. I used to have to slowdown or stop jumping rope or slide boarding to maintain that zone. Now I struggle to go fast enough to stay there.

You can “train” however you think is best for you but none of us are anywhere near the top talent. Don’t think just because they stick to a 3 hr time limit they aren’t still putting in volume. Camille herring has talked about this a lot. Turns out she may run three time a day and still hits 80-100 mile weeks. The top talent also have much more running history than you. They’re a lot more to finishing 100 milers and I think anyone can do it. Talk to some other people you may know that are on a similar level to you that have done them and get their ideas on training
Marathon is so much more just physical conditioning. 100 miler challenges you mentally. And then there’s the whole nutrition game. More than happy to talk with you about any aspect of it.

Got my last long run before okc in. Was aiming for 13 but cut it at twelve because I felt like complete a-hole. Hoping it’s just my body recovering from the sinus crap a week ago and not a larger problem.

I'm doing the 100 miler with 30 other people who are WAY less in shape than me, so I really can't talk to them about what to do (8 of them have finished a 100, but we are talking 32 hour finish times) and another coworker of mine does like 3 a year but he always looks for the hardest courses he can find and goes for it (and one of the three is always going to be over 100, this year he's doing a 200 miler). My other issue with my coworker is... he doesn't train, like at all

Much slower than my last 10k on 4/6 (45:40/7:22). I think I overdid it on the legs this week in the gym and on the track and paid for it. My heart rate was not near what it could have been, but I just didn't feel like I had it in me this weekend even from the start.
Oh well. Next 10k is 4/27 then just training and some 5k's until the fall.

Former boss I worked for at a running store in Monroe, future boss at the school I’ll be teaching at next year, and someone I trained with occasionally in college are all running. Hoping to be there next year in the first wave if this run in a couple weeks comes together the way I want it to.
