For a charity runner spot did you have to raise funds or "Write a check"?
what makes this a bucket list race for you?

I wrote a check for the minimum donation required (10K)as well as rose another 1K in donations. I normally donate to different charities but this year most went to the Red Cross.

Regarding bucket list race, I want to complete all 6 of the Abbott World Major Marathons. I have already done two: Chicago (2004) and New York City twice (2005 and 2022). Boston will be my third star. I am also registered to run the Berlin Marathon on 9/24/23. That only leaves London and Tokyo.

Great goal and I hope you achieve it!
My opinion probably differs from most maybe even all but I don't think they should have "pay to play" option. To me Boston is about putting in hard work to truly earn your entry. I think its ok to have a race that is not open to all, hence the lottery for all other races.
I've qualified 3 times and have never run it. once due to injury and twice now b/c they require covid vaccination. At some point they'll probably arbitrarily drop this requirement so maybe I'll get another chance.
