You can join one of the approved charities to get a race bib with no qualifying time required. The World Major Marathons all have this option as well. The major difference being this is the only way I know of to get in Boston if you are not fast enough to time qualify (for me as a 51 yo male it required <3:25 marathon.) The minimum amount you have to raise is usually 5-10K.

Starting a fun little challenge in an hour. Yeti 24hr/50k challenge. Will be running 5.2 miles every 4 hours for 24 hours. 1st run at 7p, then 11p, 3a, 7a, 11a, and 3p Saturday to finish. 3 runs on trails, 3 on roads.
