the subway isnt Brutalist Architecture. It is like that for its structural efficiency. Read up on the Pantheon and how it was designed.
DC Metro stations are actually well designed, clean, and easy to navigate. They feel spacious. Definitely better than Chicago’s or New York’s station designs IMO.

Communists love them some bare concrete "frick you" style structures. Whether Soviet Union, North Korea, or Washington DC, that shite is like flowers and rainbows to communists

The FBI really wants a new building. I sort of hope that Trump moves them out of DC to Detroit, Cleveland, or Buffalo.
While those are certainly worthy candidates of scum and villainy, South Side Chicago would be more fitting and even perhaps useful.

I have a place in west loop near the pink line.
Chicago is too nice of a town for them IMO, although I don’t spend any time on the south side.
Chicago has amazing architecture.

I call it Soviet Architecture
When I was traveling to Russia and former Eastern Bloc countries this style is all you would see...….except the buildings were made of cinder blocks
Ugly as hell.

I work in that building and I love it.
Very cool. I worked there for a few years as well; I loved the cracked glass elevators. Ended up moving to the 57 Center on 6th avenue right next to the Duquesne Club.
I remember when they were building the place when I was a kid. It was a big deal. Apparently Phillip Johnson got into huge arguments with the PPG folks about how high the ceilings should be and almost shut down the project. Johnson won out to the betterment of the building. The PPG folks wanted 8ft. ceilings so the could get more floors in the building. 8ft. ceilings in an office... that would have been awful.

You forgot Baton Rouge City Hall;

Looks like buildings from the USSR.

I always ascribed the architectural style of the Forrestal building to the fact that he was a SecNav before he became SecDev and was a big proponent of aircraft carriers

Boston City Hall is one of the worst examples of this.
Horrid.
Horrid.

Looks like the Texas A&M campus.

Brutalism had two big advantages: buildings could be built quickly and inexpensively. That's why you have so many of them in government facilities.

Looks like some old Soviet style buildings. Appropriate IMO

Anyone who has spent any amount of time walking through DC can describe the dread one feels when you find yourself on one of those brutalist federal blocks. The mere idea of lingering in those areas feels abhorrent, and everyone moves on, heads down, as quickly as possible.
Pretty much any part of the city except Capitol Hill makes me feel that way

No wonder DC is the most evil place on Earth.

The new Census Building in Maryland has a good look, other than the USSR themed "CENSUS" plastered across the fascade
That building is hideous. Gluing driftwood to the exterior only made it look worse.
