I feel a greater connection to LSU having graduating from there than I did when I was a kid. And that's even considering I was a diehard LSU fan as a kid. I've lived in this area most of my life save 3 1/2 years in my late 20s/early 30s. I don't look my nose down as those who didn't graduate from LSU or even attend LSU. I'm happy non-grads root for LSU, and I'm happy to call them LSU fans.

The one thing I will claim is that when LSU is made to look bad through the actions of a player or an administrator, it really upsets me more than it did before I attended and graduated. Some of that is age, but also some of it is me not wanting my institution to be embarrassed.

It's not just attending LSU, but any major school. I actually feel that I have more in common with a Florida or Auburn grad than an LSU T-Shirt fan.

I don't like hearing some arse yell at a 19 year old student who's playing HIS extracurricular sport, while taking 15 hours, spending time with his girlfriend, and doing random other stuff. I had a real problem sitting in class next to the kicker after a loss and having to see on his face the stress of what he's read online about his life.

Like the commercial said, "Most of them will be going pro in something other than sports." You probably don't get that if you never attended a major college - ANY college.

LSU has always represented the state.

I really Don’t mind people being fans of the local team no matter where they went.

But when a guy who started an account in October of 2016 and has never set foot on campus tells me to pick a different team to cheat for when I dont Blow O, they can get fricked.

I was born in BR and raised right off campus. Been a fan my whole life. Graduated in 76. Just retired to the Alabama gulf coast. The only time I say anything is when I am wearing LSU gear and a gump comes up to me with the roll tide. I respond “I graduated from LSU in 1976. What year did you graduate from the univerisity of alabama?” and watch them slowly walk away.

However, I did graduate from LSU..and I have to admit I get really annoyed when people with no connection to LSU act like obnoxious fans both on an off campus.

I don’t like it when anyone acts obnoxious the reps LSU. Grad or not

As a graduate of LSU, I anoint you a true fan of our beloved Tigers. Now drink this blood and rub this etouffee on your nipples.

I don't believe this is the majority opinion. I graduated LSU, and I'm working on my 2nd degree from there. My two buddies who tailgate with me are huge LSU fans, and neither went there.

I reserve that kind of thinking for the Louisiana residents who are gumps. These are the same people who were Miami fans in the 90s.

I think this kind of stuff comes up normally during discussions about LSU sports. If I bitch about Orgeron or the direction of the program, and some dude who never went to LSU accuses me of not being a real fan, my first reaction is "I have a degree from LSU. You?"

Not that having a degree makes me more of a fan; just that it's kind of hard to accuse me of being a bandwagon fan when I actually attended the University.

I think the “t-shirt” fan things is more to insult bandwagon fans. We had a bunch of those in the Saban and Miles years - people who never paid attention to LSU but now all of sudden were diehards. I guess one good thing about Ogreron is we don’t have to worry about that anymore.

Probably more than 1/2 of Saints fans never lived in NOLA. I am a huge Yankees fan and have only been to the city maybe 20 times.

Only people worse than those claiming you have to be a graduate of the school to be a fan are the ones that care what others think.

I have zero issues with non-alumni fans. They pay a lot of the freight for the program and they are loyal. Some of my best friends are non-alumni diehard fans.

Do me a favor, though. Care about the university as a whole. Care about the academics. Give to the university if you can. Without it, we wouldn’t have a great athletic program. Funding issues are very real. Support the entire university.

No. I am not an LSU grad but have been an ardent fan since the 60's. Had family and classmates graduate from there, kids that were best friends with my kids play football there, and proudly wear my LSU shirts, caps and other assorted products proudly wherever its appropriate. Been to tons of games. I am a true fan.

Being a fan of the football team or any team has nothing to do with attending the university. Hell I don’t give a shite if LSU shut down except for the fact the sports teams would go away.

Cause they don't know what it means to be a Tiger vs an LSU student.

There are many LSU students and profs who have LSU ID's, but they can't sniff Tiger status.
