Wondering if anyone has had experience with these hog traps.I am considering buying one but the price ($7,000)makes me want to be sure they are reliable.Hogs moved on my land about 5 years ago and they are steadily getting worse. My deer hunting has severely deteriorated, they’re tearing up all my wood roads, turkeys have vacated my property.I’ve had hardly no luck with box or corral traps,I catch a few with snares, shoot a few but I can’t come close to making a dent in the numbers.I know a guy with hog dogs,he wouldn’t come to my property because of my location. Bayou Rigolette is one of my boundaries and he said the hogs and his dogs would go straight across the bayou.

You may want to get in contact with Idlewild before you buy one. I believe they will rent you one for the month. Don't quote me on that, but worth a call before buy.

Jg is correct. They will rent you one and all you pay is the cell service monthly fee. I know some guys that rented one. Unbelievable results. If I had the money and time, I’d buy one and bring it around the state and catch for people. Could easily pay it off doing that.

Good thing I have neither of those right now!

My buddy is having one delivered to his camp this week, they had someone bring one earlier in the season and it was incredible so they bought their own

They work but u will never get rid of them. They caught over 300 on hunting club next to me last year and hogs are still here.. but just think that 300 less than there would have been. They put it at my place for 3 days and dropped trap on 11 the first night and 3 the next night.
ETA you have to have time to fool with it ( set it, look at video on phone, get hogs out at first light,) hogs will dig out after a while and you have to have a hand or two to set it up.

Seems like you could build one for way less money

Then sell the pigs you catch. Would probably end up paying itself off

From the boar buster site:
Research suggests that control methods must eliminate approximately 75% of the population just to keep up with the hogs annual reproductive capacity. Feral pigs can have two and sometimes three litters each year with up to 12 pigs per litter

They’re reliable. If that’s what’s stopping you, order it.

I've read where people try to build them, but they are engineered perfect. If something is slightly off, it wont drop right.

I’m not concerned about the metal part,I was wanting to know if they’ve had any issues with the cellular camera part. Then I wanted to know if they could tell me what to do with the hogs.Texas has quite a few places to sell them but Louisiana only has one that I know of. I’m not sure if he is still in businesss because he used to advertise in Market Bulletin but I haven’t seen it in quite a while.I hate to think about having piles of rotting hog carcasses scattered about my land,Grant Parish has landfill,I’m going to check with them if I can dump them. Not sure if I want to get into sellinghogs,I would have to buy stock trailer, get permits,a whole lot of hassle.
As WP sportsman opined,I’ll never get rid of them. There is 1000’s acres of hog habitat between me and Red River, guy across the bayou has 3500 acres, mostly in WRP and CRP,is hog heaven.
What chaps my butt is I was told by a neighbor that his cousin bought a bunch of hogs at sale barn in Opelousas some years ago and turned them loose on his property about 5 miles from me.I believe it,guy had no reason to lie and the hogs I have look about like the one’s my grandpaw used to raise.

Well Ill tell you what I know. Not what I think or an opinion.

Those auto traps work......about 2 maybe 3 times. The no matter where you move it on your place, no matter how you brush it, No matter how good you clean it. Your done. they will never step foot in it again. That's the truth that no one else will tell you. That quick trap door, the sound, the danger is something that scares them off for good. Unless of course we are moving it over 200 acres away each time. Lets be reasonable.

What does work over and over and over is a circle trap, "6"trap or a figure 8 trap with T post and hog panel. You can move them often if you like or leave them there. Ive seen the same trap catch hog 10 nights in a row. Ive put cameras on them and most of the time it takes them a couple hours to realize there trapped and once they do most never freak out they just run the circle over and over. They flat out work and are cheap and easy to setup or move the panels.

I would bet you could sell those hogs or give them away fairly easily.

Not sure what your liability would be in today's world.

But if you built a big pen for them. You could put them in there and sell them.

I'd personally buy some pigs, $25-50 each. I mean $15? Someone would buy them.

Case in point why you should NEVER sell trap-caught feral pigs. Kill them, even the little spotted cute ones, a month or so only bones left.

You can. I know of a guy who does. Has a sign he puts by the road when he has one/some for sale.
