Folks, it's my birthday weekend and I'm looking to try something new. I know this place has been there forever, but I've never given it a shot. Any good?

Excellent old school mexican at great prices. Margaritas are strong and reasonably priced. Reminds me of a NO dive eatery.

Place is a dump in a terrible part of town, but food is great.

It's about as mediocre as possible.

It's not a place you'll go for the ambiance.. or the nachos.

Don't get the nachos. I got them and they're like 8 chips on a plate with canned cheese on top.. and it tasted like they were microwaved.

The chicken enchilada was pretty good.

The owner of El Rio Grande and the old Carlos ( Florida Blvd and Airline Hwy) restaurants are brothers. RIP Joe.

Joe’s Obit

Now, Mestizos in BTR, across from TJ Ribs, is owned by Carlos’s son, Jim Urdiales. Jim is Joes nephew. I like the food and drinks at Mestizos.

Mi Tierra on Perkins near Siegen https://mitierrala.com/ and Tu Tienda on Siegen https://tutiendalatinataqueriala.com/ (both owned by the same family.

La Mexicana on Siegen (restaurant is in the back of the grocery store) https://www.facebook.com/p/La-Mexicana-100050441028179/

Any of these places. You know it's good when you're one of the few English speakers in the whole place.
