SIL went to school there and now she and BIL live in Smithville, just southeast of Austin. She fits that description to a tee. She’s a counselor and it scares the shite outta me that she is analyzing other people who are probably a shite-ton more stable than her.

guess if you don't get off the farm much, it's weird. It's really just an average city with some cool outdoor bars full of suburban white people and stories of how it used to be.

This. Austinites have pined about the good old days since the good old days.
Including those new to the city or just moved from Cali to Cedar Park lol.

I’ve visited Austin once, that was enough. People talk about the bars and atmosphere, but I’d go to Nashville and Charleston any day over Austin.

Zip lining over Lake Travis was fun though!

Damnit, stick to the game and sports.

Austin is just pretending to be Portland. It's a far less authentic version. The "weirdness" is forced.

Yeah, that’s why “Keep Austin Weird” stickers are everywhere...because a bunch of hick outsiders think it’s weird.

The area in and around Lake Travis is beautiful and fun! Just hate the Liberal Left in that scene!

Kinda like nyc

The only thing Austin has in common with NYC is that they’re the only two cities you’ve visited outside of BR.

Such an awesome statement. Could supplant Keep Austin Weird.

You do know almost all those desirable place to live studies are complete dog shite. They put way too much weight on things that are hard to measure. I’m not saying Austin isn’t a great place to live but touting studies as to why is garbage unless you look into how they put that study together.

"It's shows that he's narrow minded and biased. Austin is consistently ranked as one of the most desirable US cities for living.

Austin embraces being weird;hence, the "keep Austin weird" stickers posted all around town. They aren't upset by it.

you all do realize that if 99.999 % of the world visited Austin and then visited Baton Rouge, they would choose Austin as the place they would love, right?

Austin is a damn cool city. Don’t agree that it’s the #1 city to live in the USA but many ratings have it right there. Here all day yesterday, all over the city...Fabulous food, cool people, snobby people (Texas fans suck) and saw not one homeless person.

The Texas fan stereotypes are true. ‘Go TIGERS’ results in,...well, nothing - absolutely nothing, not even eye contact.
