It's not every day you see a tower flying through the air.
That'll make the highlight reels.

Whole area (Port Neches, Groves, parts of Nederland and Port Arthur) are under a mandatory evacuations. Crazy stuff, man. Got lots of friends that live close

How long does this last? Ash is raining out of the smoke.

Probably until the fire is out.

No telling honestly. It doesnt look like they have it under control at all. Them putting larger and larger mandatory evac notices out isnt exactly settling news

Wow the tower shooting off was unnerving

10 day evac is what I was just told. Pretty nuts

Those are the tanks I'd be the most worried about honestly. Any plant I've worked in, always some volatile stuff stored in those sphere tanks.

Well that didn’t take long. Don’t even know the cause, but hey, willful misconduct and negligence.

And in an attempt to protect these residents, a local law firm around noon filed a class action law suit and an application for a temporary restraining order and injunction against TPC. Chip Ferguson, managing partner of The Ferguson Law Firm, said if granted the filings will preserve evidence at the explosion site to preserve answers “in the scorched rubble inside the TPC plant.” “It’s a tragedy made even worse due to the holiday season,” he said. “It’s scary from the position that you’re asleep and wake up with your doors being blown in and the sky on fire and you’re packing up and getting your children and you don’t know what happened. It’s hard to imagine anything more terrifying than that.” The lawsuit alleges against TPC negligence, willful misconduct and private nuisance, among other charges.

Liquefied gases are stored in those tanks because spheres have the lowest surface area for any given volume. It minimizes the heat transferred into the stored material from its surroundings. They're usually very well insulated.
Things like propane, butane, butadiene, ethane, propylene, LPG, etc., are what's typically in those things.

Dont get me wrong, TPC does have financial liability for this mess. But good Lord let the damn event finish before starting lawsuits. Pretty clear they havent had time to safely investigate the cause or even the effects.

Here’s something scary maybe. The red box in the bottom right is where the fire is. The white circle at the top left, I’m guessing, is a storage/transfer facility on the river a couple miles away. Why is the road blocked off next to that remote facility?
ETA: Actually it looks like everything north of the facility to the river is closed off to traffic.

Hard to believe there are no fatalities yet.
First explosion happened around 1-130 in the morning. Thankfully, we’re close to the Thanksgiving holidays and if there weren’t anything going on if the plant was running like it was supposed to, then there wouldn’t have been many people out in the unit and probably had their feet up somewhere in a control room.

Officials at the TPC Group say all of their employees are accounted for according to Branick.
One person suffered a broken arm and another has already been released from the hospital Branick said.

Can confirm from someone that the fire has gotten to the spheres and there is butadiene in some of them. The only thing the ERT can do is keep them cool with river water and hope for the best.
If the spheres go, it could level a 4-5 mile radius in PN-G

Yeah that’s pretty scary. Just heard the mandatory evacuation totals 50K people. Yikes
Hopefully all the foam supplies were replenished following ITC. They used a lot from the Hou Ship channel area

I wonder how this will affect the Motiva Refinery in PAR.

Wow.. we build tanks for them. Could’ve been me
