#1, #3, #4, #8 are all New England States. You could make the case for Deleware being the Southern most NE State but we can leave that one off.
New York isn’t New England....
There’s a direct correlation between cost of living and welfare per capita.

New York is not New England, I will agree with that. Regardless of whatever correlation that you care to consider, the fact remains that per capita, there is one “almost” Southern State at #10 and the 9 preceding it are in the North(3 in NE), Minnesota, Alaska, New Mexico and Oregon. What that tells you is that the lower class in places other than the South are more likely to take from their fellow taxpayers while those in the South try to be more self sustaining , even when eligible for subsidies. A little more pride down here partner. The trashy people in the North are completely okay with stealing from their fellow citizens whereas Southerners are mostly embarrassed by it.
