The guitar solo intro on the live version of Celluloid Heroes is one of the great moments in rock and roll history. A more expressive guitar solo has never existed. Why they get lost in the shuffle is a mystery to Kinks fans.

Maybe later in their career but they were pretty highly regarded mid to late 60s and early 70s.

They were actually banned from performing in the US by the musicians union at the height of their career ('65-'69). This is one reason their greatest work ("Waterloo Sunset", Village Green Preservation Society, Arthur) is little known here.

Astral Weeks by Van Morrison was released a week later, and the Stones' Beggar's Banquet a week after that.

"Denmark Street" is a song on the Lola album (it's London's Tin Pan Alley, the music publishing district)

"Dead End Street" is a better song though

Your top 5 Kinks songs? I’ll go:

Waterloo Sunset (possibly the most beautiful song of all-time)
Village Green
Autumn Almanac
Dedicated Follower of Fashion
A Well Respected Man

That was hard. Ray Davies is a gem. God save the Village Green!

I feel like Lola doesn’t get the respect it deserves, if the stones made it , it would be universally revered
