Carl Nicks earned a 5 year 47.5 M (31 m GTD) in 2012. Peat earned 5 year 57.5 (33 M GTD) in 2020. Both were 2 times pro bowlers. The difference is one left the other stayed. Very important to note that Nicks loss was felt hence the reason they drafted Peat. Which is why bringing him back makes sense due to a repeat of the same mistake made in 2012.

Yep. The FO was obviously upset that they lost him, too. That's why Peat got what he got. I wonder what the Chiefs were offering him.

I agree but I think they were pretty similar as run blockers. Nicks definitely a better pass blocker from G position. Albeit Nicks couldn’t swing out to LT like Peat can

I think we underestimate Peat as a run blocker, dude has a pretty good history of embarrassing people. Now put a quick pass rusher inside and Peat may get embarrassed

Nicks was nasty and had a mean streak..Peat is a fat slob. Got away with using sheer size in college. Has hid behind great offensive years to earn “pro bowls”

Go rewatch the ATL game before he got hurt and watch what happened after he got hurt. Trust Peat is a premium player at the G position. The Saints will end up with a 10 YR starter at G probably 2-3 more Pro Bowls for him.

Did you just compare a 2012 contract to a 2020 contract? Lol

This has no account for inflation.

That Nicks offer was like an all time high.

The Peat offer is pedestrian.

Peat is well worth it

How dare you disgrace Nick’s name mentioning it in the same sentence as jelly-belly Peat.

I don’t agree with this fully for 2 reasons. Nicks was the best guard on the planet for a couple years here. Yes jahri got most of the recognition but Nicks was an absolute grizzly bear who mauled anyone and everyone. You can’t compare the 2 and they don’t belong in the same sentence. The reason Peat got that money is the interior of our line is the most important for Drew. Add that to the fact that Peat if needed can kick out to LT (very valuable considering how often armstead misses time) and can play at an acceptable level. His versatility is what got him that money. He’s a solid guard when he’s healthy. Wildly inconsistent and the last 3 playoff games he personally was thrown around like a rag doll.
