There’s your problem. If you think you know enough to rule out the possibility of other intelligent life in the face of overwhelming mathematical probability based on your own knowledge, then you sir, are no scientist.

You would be hard preto find a scientist who doesn’t believe life exists elsewhere. Intelligent life is likely extremely rare, but I would bet that we will find evidence in our own solar system soon. Fossils on Mars. Hell, the new findings on Venus.

This mindset is one of the reasons the medical profession had such a difficult time moving from bloodletting to blaming all disease on the "vapors". When you think you know everything about something, you stop looking for more.
