First time going to Cancun and looking to book an all inclusive for a week in March. We can do any of the greater Cancun areas (playa del Carmen, Rivera maya, etc.). Looking to spend about $200-$350 per night. Top priority is good food (wife is a picky eater) and beach waiter service.

Never booked an all inclusive before so forgive my rookie questions.

Sounds like you better not screw this up or it will be a miserable vacation

I've never been to it, but I've always heard good things about Excellence Playa Mujeres. You will have to spend a little more to stay there though.

Recently, I've been to El Dorado Royale and Secrets Capri. Polar opposites when it comes to layouts, as El Dorado is expansive and Secrets Capri is very small in comparison. Food at Secrets was better, in my opinion, but El Dorado wasn't bad either. I drank all day, so any food would have tasted good though.

The best food I've had at a Cancun AI was at Live Aqua. Hidden Garden there was amazing asian food and MB was a top notch steak joint. Sea Corner was the perfect lunch spot right on the beach. The ceviche was fantastic. That's only like half the restaurants there as well.

Live Aqua.

We tried a different resort every time we went until we stayed at Live Aqua.

Restaurants at Atelier Playa Mujeres are amazing. The buffet and room service food aren't the best but still better than typical RIU AI types food.

Villa Del Palmar Playa Mujeres had surprisingly good food but the resort itself is lacking.

Like other posters said, EPM or secrets maroma. The food may be a tad better at EPM, but the beach at secrets is better.

I’m at UNICO right now and the food is good but they must be short staffed because the wait time for drinks at the pool/beach suck

Three years ago, I spent three nights at the Hyatt Ziva in Cancun, and I thought that the food was excellent, from the nice restaurants to the burgers grilled out on the beach. And there were always plenty of waiters. The Ziva is located at the end of a little promontory, so there is actually nice beach on both sides of the hotel -- plenty of room for everyone.

Excellence and Secrets AI's are both great. Don't stay in Cancun. Don't go to a cheap place. The El Dorado Royale is very nice as well.

Granted only Secrets I've been to is the vine in Cancun and the food was awful. Nothing like Live Aqua. Others may be good but OP, avoid the vine.

How were the rules around the resort and was anything closed?

Once you’re inside the resort, Covid doesn’t exist. Masks aren’t required (the staff wears them and there’s plexiglass). Seemed to be limited occupancy, but still a good crowd. The only difference between other trips is they’re closing one restaurant a night due to the lower occupancy. Still doing shows, just with the chairs spread out. All bars are open, all pools and beach areas are good to go.

I was just there in October. Unless something changed between now and then, they just had reduced capacity.
