I remember going to a Luther's somewhere between Jean Laffite and NOLA.

It was on Lapalco, just off Barataria..

Being a Metry boy, I always hit the one on Severn.

Those shoes were all I wore during the summertime.

Used to take the wife to Luther’s on Bertrand across from Cajun Field for a treat during our college days back in the early 90s.

Diners Club issued the first credit card in the early 1950s.
There were Gas Company credit cards available in the mid-1950s.

A friend of mine’s dad was given a gas credit card by his dad in or about 1955. Probably a Texaco card but maybe a Gulf card. The kid was about 20 years old and ended up down in Key West as a lifeguard at a hotel/motel swimming pool down there. His parents hadn’t heard from him for several months but kept on getting bills from the credit card for around $5.00 to $10.00 of gas a month but also two or three car batteries each month. Finally the son calls home and his dad asks him if there’s something wrong with his car. The son fessed up and said he was charging the batteries on the gas card and the service station owner would buy the batteries back for $0.50 on the dollar.

That cash was the son’s beer money.
