College-aged son took the puppy from a friend a few months ago and now realizes he is not ready for the responsibility that comes along with raising the puppy.

Puppy has a good demeanor and will fetch but needs a lot of work to turn into a hunter.

Not registered. Father was Silver Lab, Mother was Red Lab. This one is black brown and tan - see image below.

Genetics isn't my thing but a silver lab and red lab dropped a black&tan pup?

This is the time when I would post the pic of white mom and dad with black baby, if photobucket still worked here or if I cared how to use a different photo posting method.

What the HEY! It comes from a good neighborhood. Like my old neighbor said many years ago while we were helping stack hay by hand, "What good are neighbors if you can't use them?"

I know you guys are joking about the color and it seems like a cross breed, but the litter had puppies of all different colors - he was the only one with black and tan coloring.

Know the original owner of the litter and the two dogs bred were owned by members of the same family.

If this was one month later when I will be down in BR and NO, I would seriously consider it. Fine looking dog and my 2 yr old lab would love to have a more active friend. Our other lab is about 6 yrs old but only has 3 legs so he is a little more chill. Keep me up to date. If you still have it around March 14th I may take it. Either update this thread or send an email to my username at gmail dot com.

Pretty sure black pups can result from any color combo of parents.

A quick google revealed that Black and Tans do exist in labs. It’s a recessive and undesirable but looking at the parents “colors” it makes sense

Nice looking dog. Those colors make it look like a rottweiler got to the mom at some point. Update us if someone claims it. May know someone who will want to take it in

I was just legitimately curious. I've seen a litter of AB x Rotti which produced some red dogs.... so I know things happen, but I also now that things can pop up from genes long forgotten.

Good looking pup though.

Thats what I was thinking. There might be 25% Lab in this pup maybe 75 Rotti.

Then there was a Rotweiller in the neighborhood who had time to cover the bitch. NO way this is a lab I guess maybe 25 %.
