Thanks everybody for the help on the sand wedge. As for this new set I got that I mentioned it is a used set but the pictures seem to show it in good enough shape. When the set comes in this week I've read some different ways to clean the clubs. Seems pretty easy. Soap, water, and a tooth brush. Don't soak the woods or the driver (I imagine because they're hollow).

The grips I feel pretty confident in being able to figure out if they're ok or not. As for the grooving or maybe the shaft is there anything I should look out for? Do shafts become less stiff over time and therefore make the clubs less useful? Also does the grooving on the head wear down and if so how would I identify that and is there anything to be done about it?

I know with a used set there will be a good amount of wear but I want to try and clean the set up as well as I can and restore it where I can so it'll last me a while before I invest in a new set.

TIA

Yes, but it won't matter for what you are trying to do. Just learn to make good solid contact first, groove wear is not important right now.

yep, thats pretty much it. same way with the grips. if you clean them good and they still feel slick its time for a change, but depending on the brand/style of grips they should stay pretty tacky for a while especially if they aren't played that much. I play 50-60 times a year and my grips are good for 2 seasons.

I use Citrus Magic Cleaner on the grips and I feel that it makes them a little more tacky.

I learned from a caddy on YouTube that Windex works great on grips. It’s a degreaser. I like it

Grooving can def wear down and you will even see it in the face of some clubs. I’ve had my irons for 10 years and the 9 and 7 have some wear on the face. Honestly i can’t even notice much of a difference. Shafts getting stiffer or less stiff over time? If so it’s probably minuscule and you will never know. I wash my clubs after each round with warm water and my club brush. Whatever you buy I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Sweet sounds good. Is there anyway to identify how old the clubs are when I get them? They're Taylormade Burner LCGs. Not sure if that's a long running line that comes out with new things every year or if they change up the names when they make new stuff every however many years. More just curious on the history of the clubs and how nice they were at the time they were made and what may have changed in the technology since then.

From what i looked up the release date is 1997. Over the last decade if not more manufacturers release modified versions every 2 years or so until that line is ended. So it would be hard to tell but the Burner LCG original was released in 97.

What changed in golf technology since then? Almost everything

Awesome. If I suck I’ll just blame the clubs.
