The 2017 season was already over when he was hired. His first season was 2018.

What about the Louisville coach who coached up a team that was not even a baseball university ?

You mean the same coach that still hasn't won a thing and whose team totally collapsed this year and possibly will miss the tournament?

Yeah I'll pass.

So does a coach have to have won a national title to be worthy of the LSU job?

That guy who “hasn’t won a thing” has 9 conference titles and 5 trips to Omaha at a school who had been to 1 NCAAT in their history prior. He’s missed it once

And has performed as well as PM. He's a carbon copy and there are better options to go after.

How do you figure? Because he hasn’t won a national title?

There are only a few active coaches that have

Tim Corbin - not leaving Vandy
Kevin O’Sullivan - Florida
Brian O’Connor - who actually is a Paul disciple
Gary Gilmore - is in his 60s and been at Coastal for like 30 years
John Savage - UCLA

That’s it.

They were in a regional final his second year and were like 20-1 when the season was cancelled last year. This season didn’t come out of nowhere

It is pretty much the same exact team as last year tho. Had covid not happened this year wouldn’t have been his successful year but last year would have... I’m not sold on Vitello yet; and won’t be until I see what kind of results he has in 2022. If he emulates this years success next year; then I will be 100% sold and all in. But right now; I still think he needs to prove himself more; and not to mention his teams horrible attitude and sportsmanship is no where close to what I’d want LSU’s program to become. Lsu has always and will always have a classy program. (And I am not talking about fans here; I mean the actual young men that represent the university)

Not really. They lost more guys to the draft than anyone in the SEC, including their two best starting pitchers

So who are the proven coaches you would be comfortable with?

All I know is if Vitello can win big at TN, he'll have a field day at LSU. I'm open to others if you can convince me. O'Sullivan is a good coach, but similar to PM. Just think we need young blood, someone hungry.

I don’t know; it’s not my job to make those types of decisions... but I can say this; pretty much anyone that gets hired will
Be successful with this team next year regardless... I just don’t think Vitello deserves some of the extreme dick riding that our fans are doing... some are saying like “offer him
Whatever amount” or “write a blank check; but do whatever to get him here” like he is this proven and established head coach already... like let’s just see what he does this postseason and maybe even next year before giving him all this praise and worship. He hasn’t done anything yet tbh besides taking the East by a half game this year... I’m not sold on him yet; but like I said; if he proves himself this postseason and shows next year that he can sustain success; then I’ll be all in. But not quite yet.

Vitello built (recruited) the team at TCU who went to 4 straight CWS and built the Arkansas team that is #1 in the country right now. Seeing him build Tennessee into what they are shows it’s pretty evident the guy is pretty damn good at what he does. He’s also young and hungry.

you realize now that 3 different head coaches have all said something about this Tennessee team? I realize every LSU fan on here hates Paul Manieri and points out every little thing like it’s so embarrassing or insane but PM was the first to point it out and say something and then everyone jumped all over him like he was a cry baby or weak; but since then 2 more coaches (both of proven and successful programs) have had issues with Vitello and/or his team and the way they handle/handled themselves...

He had words with his former boss after a really tight series between two top 5 teams. So what? (That was also after Arkansas’ CF posed, did a big bat flip, and stomped on home plate) No one should care if we’re winning. No one gave a shite how cocky our football team was when we went 15-0, nor should they have

And Mainieri complained about the UT fans, not Vitello or his team
